Born: February 4, 1918 in Camberwell, London, England Died: August 3, 1995 (age 77) in Los Angeles, California, USA http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0526946/ English-born American actress and film director, and the only woman directing feature films in Hollywood during the 1950s. She played tough and determined women in thrillers such as High Sierra (1941). Later, while continuing to act, she set up an independent production company (1949), for which she directed several low-budget films during the 1950s. Her works include The Hitch-Hiker (1953), an all-male suspense story, and the domestic drama The Bigamist (1953). Lupino went on to direct episodes for various television series through the 1950s and 1960s. |
