As a committed redhead freak it only seems right to offer up Melissa Leo in the 1985 movie Streetwalkin'. I never was a Law & Order fan but the few times I saw her on it I couldn't help but wonder what a babe she must have been in her younger years, well, this movie proved my suspicions quite on target.

What! Durable actress Melissa Leo who has been in the biz for a billion years (and the bulk of whose works has impressively been in feature films; there have also been TV show exceptions, of course, notably Homicide: Life on the Street for 77 episodes from 1993-1997, and a 1984-88 stint on the soap, All My Children), and who has been cool enough to shed her clothes on several occasions, has this VEF thread that began all the way back in 2009 (thanks to mainly silent Member "Etete," who is still with us), and it's barely a page long?



Watching Thunder Force (2021), the superheroine comedy starring Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer, led to this post for an actress in the film. Another actress was Melissa Leo, playing an ex-CIA, no-nonsense type, and serves as the reason why I'm now on her thread.



Melissa was sixty-one and, alas, she has proven to be an example of how redheads don't usually age well. There is a scene where Melissa McCarthy goes off on her antics, likening Melissa's character to Jodie Foster, which I thought was making fun of "stiff" Jodie from Silence of the Lambs... but then Melissa began to spout wacky lines imitating Jodie, and I had no idea what she was referring to. Luckily, Melissa's character spelled it out: "(Nell)... Jodie Foster, 1994." So it was a take-off on this. (I guess the writers realized I wasn't the only one who hasn't seen Nell, film about a wild child brought back to civilization.)




As you may see (hey, all you gotta do is look up), members focused on Melissa's nude scene from Streetwalkin' (1985) in four of the six posts above. (Members "Eastside" and "Hefestus" came up with some excellent views; my own frame grabs came from an inferior print, and are comparatively lousy no matter how much I tried to enhance them.)



Streetwalkin' was Melissa's first feature film, and as with many actresses starting out (this big break of hers involved not just any part in a film, but the starring role), she made the "nudity concession," to the delight of viewers from the past near-four decades, and for viewers as yet unborn. It's been a while since I've seen the film, and I thought the reason why I sought it out was because the irresistible Julie Newmar was in the cast.


Melissa played "Cookie," runaway high school dropout turned streetwalker,
now facing the dangers of 1980s Times Square, and the ire of a deserted
pimp. Julie was "Queen Bee." Although fifty or fifty-one, you would think
the johns would have lined up to feel her sting.

Then it came back to me. The reason why I went out of my way to catch the flick (traveling to a farther-away video store in a different neighborhood was necessary) is because a woman I had picked up in a department store told me she was in the film, and led me to believe she was the star, which I had to think was Melissa Leo. Captivated (I was dating the star of a film; I felt so special), I had to check the movie out, but it slowly became apparent as I was watching (although I was giddy to have seen my would-be conquest naked before the possible sex play; how often do we get the chance to see a preview?) that "my girl" didn't resemble Melissa Leo. She had lied to me, and our relationship was nipped in the bud as a result. This is the strange reason why Melissa Leo has a special place in my heart. In a way, Melissa was "my girl," too.




1985 was a busy year for Melissa, which is interesting because she had no track record (well... it later sank in she began her screen career in 1984, on the aforementioned soap; that must have helped), and we may see she was already in demand. She appeared in an indie, as with Streetwalkin', a big-time TV show (things were looking up), and I was tempted to say another indie until I noticed Silent Witness was a TV-movie starring Valerie Bertinelli (whose character was conflicted for not initially wishing to testify, in order to protect her brother-in-law who participated in the bar rape of a drunken Melissa). Yet Melissa was still paying her dues at this early stage, consenting to disrobe once again. (The nude view seen below had to have been shot for the foreign market.)



See, this is why Melissa is so cool. After racking up the credits, she didn't have to keep on taking off her clothes. She could have easily developed the mindset of Alyssa "My Poison Ivy days are over" Milano, after Alyssa and so many other once-nude actresses turn their noses up at being skin-nier, since they feel (I suppose this would be their primary reason) they must be regarded as "serious" actresses. (Since, you know, nudity equals porn, in the minds of many. Of course, such is these actresses' choice and it must be respected.)

When Melissa was forty-three, she was in a sexy scene from 2003's 21 Grams, an ambitious film regarding three lives brought together by tragedy: terminally ill mathematician Sean Penn, mother in dire straits Naomi Watts, and drug-dealer-turned-Christian Benicio Del Toro, who is married to Melissa Leo. Our lady did not remove her clothing, as you may see from Member "Jony 07"'s post above, but she was her usual ball of fire; Melissa puts her heart into her sex plays (beyond being a pro at regular acting).

I didn't make a study of all of Melissa's nude appearances (since this post was supposed to be "fast"... but it never turns out to be that way), and yet here was this generous woman, still baring it for us (as seen above), at the age of forty-five. (I have not seen 2005's The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, but I get the sense it's a goodie, starring and directed by Tommy Lee Jones. Melissa plays a bored wife who has romantic entanglements with Tommy and other men.)




The film where Melissa was most revealing was 1992's Immaculate Conception, where our thirty-two-year-old lady plays a woman desperate to have a child. She and her British husband venture off to Pakistan, after hearing about a shrine run by eunuchs which claims to cure infertility. She is delighted to find herself pregnant afterwards, but could the seed have come from another? And will the sect have a claim on the baby-to-be? From what I've seen, Melissa gives it, as usual, her all.




Curiously, the film's trailer did not balk from featuring this nudity.




There is so much more Melissa has appeared in (have you seen her filmography, that goes on and on?), and as we know, it's not just the nude views that are highlighted in actresses' VEF threads, so it is interesting why Melissa has been so grossly overlooked. Perhaps she's such a fine actress, sexy is not what comes to mind when male viewers think of her. Who knows.
