Two sources confirm the 1991 suicide of April '64 PM Ashlyn Martin. I don't know why it took 21 years for this sad fact to become publicly known. Ashlyn, from London, was 18 when she posed. Don't know any details, except that she was 45 at the time of her death.

I just reviewed some photos of this beautiful brunette. It's been a long, long time since PB had a model with Ashlyn's kind of "real girl" appeal.

Added: A third source gives New Year's Day 1989 as the date of her death.

I have learned that Ashlyn Martin was NOT from London. She was from Ohio, USA. April 1964 was during the height of Beatlemania, so PB figured a birthplace of London sounded better.

Former Page 3 Girl Suzie Griffiths died a couple of years ago. She had been suffering from depression for some time. Very sad.

Default LeRoy Neiman, PB artist, dead at 91

LeRoy Neiman, who along with Hugh Hefner conceived the idea of Playboy's popular FEMLIN has passed away:

In 1954, after five issues of Playboy had appeared, Mr. Neiman ran into Mr. Hefner and invited him to his apartment to see his paintings of boxers, strip clubs and restaurants. Mr. Hefner, impressed, showed the work to Playboy’s art director, Art Paul, who commissioned an illustration for “Black Country,” a story by Charles Beaumont about a jazz musician.

Thus began a relationship that endured for more than half a century and established Mr. Neiman’s reputation.

In 1955, when Mr. Hefner decided that the party-jokes page needed visual interest, Mr. Neiman came up with the Femlin, a curvaceous brunette who cavorted across the page in thigh-high stockings, high-heeled shoes, opera gloves and nothing else. She appeared in every issue of the magazine thereafter.

Three years later, Mr. Neiman devised a running feature, “Man at His Leisure.” For the next 15 years, he went on assignment to glamour spots around the world, sending back visual reports on subjects as varied as the races at Royal Ascot, the dining room of the Tour d’Argent in Paris, the nude beaches of the Dalmatian coast, the running of the bulls at Pamplona and Carnaby Street in swinging London. He later produced more than 100 paintings and 2 murals for 18 of the Playboy clubs that opened around the world.

“Playboy made the good life a reality for me and made it the subject matter of my paintings — not affluence and luxury as such, but joie de vivre itself,” Mr. Neiman told V.I.P. magazine in 1962
.

Mr. Neiman did several paintings for PB, as well as paintings depicting sports.

Yeah, just heard the sad news myself
IMO she was a far better (soft porn) actress than most people ever gave her credit for, she was stylish and artistic, and you always had the opinion with her movies that they were non-explotive

Damn. Watching the Emanuelle films on late-night cable as a young lad was a definite formative experience for me (and, I suspect, for many others as well). As xj900uk said, she was a better actress than most people reckoned--she managed to come across as innocent, sensitive, and vulnerable, but also adventurous, sensual, and liberated. Not an easy balance for any actress to achieve.
