There is no way that Chicago could be safer that Tokyo. I know a couple that lives in Tokyo. They can go anywhere in the city walking at night and never be bothered by anyone. There is so little crime the police don't even carry guns. They are only armed with batons and a radio. In Chicago the police have batons, tasers, and either a snub nosed 38 caliber revolver or a 44 caliber Glock which has a clip that holds 17 rounds.

Those numbers that you hear Trump, the news media, and others, spout, come from the FBI's Uniform Crime Report...which are self reported statistics. If you have a beef, it's with your local Chicago officials for reporting, what you apparently believe, are incorrect numbers.

Glock 44? https://us.glock.com/products/all Don't see one.

I never lived in Chicago but have seen references to the South Side for years - (Bad, Bad Leroy Brown - Showtime's Shameless) and just have a mental image of poor working class people with way too many criminals hidden amongst them. http://southsidefans.com/chicago/whe...de-of-chicago/ The latest were the two last contestants on Top Chef, both were from the South Side and seemed quite proud of it. http://www.chicagotribune.com/entert...307-story.html

I didn't notice anyone speak of the South Side yet in this thread.

I live on the southside of Chicago. The southside of Chicago does have some interesting things. There is The University of Chicago one of the best universities in America, and at the northern boundary of the university is the University of Chicago Hospitals also considered to be one of the finest of hospital complexes in America. Just north of this sprawling area is the world famous Museum of Science&Industry and Jackson Park the largest of Chicago's many parks which is 500 acres in size. It has two huge boat yards, and boat harbor, a wooded island and lagoon, an 18 hole public golf course, the grounds and building for the LaRabida Childrens Hospital and Research Center, many walking trails, and typical things seen in most parks, a tot lot, fields for playing football, a baseball diamond, tennis courts, and something you don't often see in other parks: a lawn bowling court and many other things. The down side of this area is that it is very crime ridden. Most of the worst crimes in the city happen on the southside.

Every major city has it's bad areas. People who live there know them, and try to avoid them. Those of us not from that random large city, don't always know the bad areas, and therefore, what area to avoid. And every major city has it's attractions, some of which are located in areas that are virtual war zones.

I have relatives in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area. They are all, and I do mean ALL, either law enforcement, or firefighters...it's like a genetic thing with them I suppose. On one trip down that way to visit them, one of the LEOs in the group said, if you have any kind of vehicle troubles do not get off of the major highways...period. Just pull over to the side and wait for a LEO to stop and help you...this was in the days before cell phones...because you don't know if that neighborhood, or part of the city, you drive down into is safe or not. I was like "And tell me again why this is such a great place to live?"

I, honestly, do not understand how people can live in a place where they are taking their lives into their hands everytime they walk out the front door. I'll stay in my little BFE place, even if we don't have fancy museums and art exhibits...where I can still walk down the road at night without having to worry about bumping into anything but a skunk or coyote.

Now this could only happen to a guy like tm
And only happen in a town like this
So may I say to each of you most gratefully
As I throw each one of you a kiss

This is my kind of town, Chicago is
My kind of town, Chicago is
My kind of people too
People who smile at you

And each time I roam, Chicago is
Calling me home, Chicago is
Why I just grin like a clown
It's my kind of town
My kind of town, Chicago is
My kind of town, Chicago is
My kind of razzmatazz
And it has, all that jazz

And each time I leave, Chicago is
Tuggin' my sleeve, Chicago is
The Wrigley building, Chicago is
The union stockyard, Chicago is
One town that won't let you down
It's my kind of town

I listened to that today, Yep another New Jersey God Hoboken

The few that live there, what makes it your kind of town ???
