Watched Lady Bird (2017) I am a Saoirse Ronan fan - thought she was great in Brooklyn, so when I heard she won the Oscar for Best Actress in it, I bought the Blu-Ray. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Bird_(film) I can't say I liked the film. For most of the movie I just thought her character was a self absorbed teenager (17/18 time period) who didn't seem to take much notice of the problems her dad and mother were going through. I did think her "boyfriend" was gay when he said he wouldn't touch her boobs because he respected her too much. They were in theater rehearsals when this was going on, so when it later turned out he was gay, I don't think any male viewer would have been surprised. No nudity in the film.

The "coming of age" story to me was not interesting. So she lies, feels sorry for herself, chooses the wrong guys, treats her Mom like crap and finally starts to change at the rather abrupt end - big fucking deal. I guess it was good acting but I didn't really appreciate it. 2.5 of 5 for me. Rotten Tomatoes had the critics at 99% and the audience at 80% so I guess I was not in the target audience.

I watched "I, Tonya (2017) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I,_Tonya I wasn't going to watch it cuz I hate Tonya Harding, but people said it was a good film. It was highly entertaining. A Rashomon version of a tale with multiple lying pieces of feces telling their version of what happened. Several of the interviews were so weird to me that I thought it was a "Hollywood" artistic license version - but the end credits show the actual participants in the same exact interviews in the same manner of dress - including a parrot on her shoulder. (Recall the mother earlier in the film bitching about her own lack of a fur coat) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtT9x5PQPQA

My favorite scene - A poor girl trying to compete in a rich girl's sport. At like 9 years old, when they told her she needed to wear a fur coat to fit in, her dad went rabbit hunting, skinned a bunch of them and they sewed up a garment fit for a cave girl. She wore it proudly and flipped off the people who made disparaging comments. Almost made me change my mind about her. (didn't hurt that the little girl playing Tonya at that age was the excellent child actress - McKenna Grace - who was in Gifted) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLf6yxDUoQw

The skating was impressive and I thought it must all be CGI/blue screen, but supposedly it wasn't. https://www.theverge.com/2018/1/29/1...robbie-skating Thus Margot Robbie must be commended for what she actually did which supposedly was a lot.

The end scenes where she actually tried celebrity boxing are funny as hell. It made me look up her actual boxing record and articles. http://www.tmz.com/2018/02/11/tonya-...nockout-video/ http://mentalfloss.com/article/51918...-tonya-harding

Allison Janney won a shit ton of awards for her role as the White Trash child beating pushy mother. She deserved them all. She is the Hans Gruber of Screen Moms. Its too bad Margot Robbie didn't win any of the major awards she was nominated for, she certainly did a hell of a job.

Rotten Tomatoes has the critics at 90% and the audience at 89%. I give it five out of five, even without female nudity.

Note: Tonya Harding's reaction to the portrayals. http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/...ry?id=52221341 Don't go feeling too sad for Harding, remember the FBI found that paper in her handwriting that had Kerrigan's training location and time table. Didn't know, bullshit.

Watched "What if" (2013) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1486834/ Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan Rom com between the two - The Shadow of Harry Potter and Gayness disturbed my viewing of this film. Reminded me of a friend who was in theater in college who said the play they were producing had the romantic leads (MF) causing laughter behind the scenes as both were homosexuals. The movie is okay, but Radcliffe is too well known to be acceptable to me. Half expected him to pull out his wand and cast a spell. No nudity either. Plot was predictable, like most rom coms. 2.5 of 5 Rotten Tomatoes had it 72% critics 69% audience.

Pacific Rim Uprising

IMDB
YouTube Trailer

Jake Pentecost, son of Stacker Pentecost, reunites with Mako Mori to lead a new generation of Jaeger pilots, including rival Lambert and 15-year-old hacker Amara, against a new Kaiju threat.

What a piece of crap!
Pacific Rim was the usual greatness we expect from someone as gifted as Guillermo Del Toro. The movie managed to transcend its supposedly stupid japanese Sentaï plot (giant robots Vs Giant monsters) to create an epic story with some glorious moments. This one...is the perfect opposite!

You wanted giant monsters? You wanted Kaijus? Well...you'll have some...20mn before the credits start! There's a lack of everything in this dumbass sequel. Nothing interesting ever happens. So you have this hero who's the son of the character played by Idiss Elba in Pacific Rim and this guy's arch is so blend and boring: the usual/typical relentless warrior who finally deals with a trouble past and become the savior of the world. The one with typical/usual daddy issues. A rebel with a cause.
Then you have the most annoying 2nd hero seen in a long time at the movies: the genious teen girl who's able to build a 50ft robot all alone in her warehouse! the typicial/usual rebel orphan who finally deals with a trouble past and...well, you already know what I was about to say! A moron rebel who thinks that everyone's against her and talk to people like shit but then, she softens and save the world.

Almost all the other characters are just here to fill some cases. They're useless for most of them. Some from the previous film are back but if you liked them (I did) in PR, you won't believe what the writers did to them in the sequel...and let's talk just a sec 'bout the asian hottie played by Jing Tian! Sure she's here to satisfy the asian audience who could help Uprising getting more dollars. A lot of american movies are flirting with Asia for 4 or 5 years nows and it's kind of embarrassing because they don't even try to hide it anymore.
So the Jing Tian girl (who's really really cute, by the way) plays ******* SPOILERS *******the villain but finally she turns to be not that villainous! What a surprise! ******* END OF SPOILERS. Probably because the targeted chinese audience prefer heroes too.

The special effects are not that bad but they aren't as well made than in the precedent Pacific Rim. The all visual look is cheaper and sometimes we feel like we're watching a Tv series pilot. The story is obviously dumb and uninspired for a penny. Top Gun/Power Rangers Vs Godzilla, in some sort.

I'm a huge Pacific Rim fan for different reasons and I will consider it as one of my favorite movies ever. When I first saw the trailer for sequel (filled with a crappy Tupac remix just to appeal the youngers), I was worried. Now I'm shocked! This sequel spits on the face of its predecessor. A shame. A total shame. It pissed me off. F**k this film!

Demon Haunt (2009)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1429446/

From the cult horror master Ted V Mikels, a badly CGI infested horror movie with cartoon demons threatening a teacher and her wheelchair bound sister buy a new home. They are told that the previous tenants have left some stuff in the cellar, a local kid tells her that his friend moved out as there were some funny things going on ..... kids eh!!! what do they know?
The girls move in and soon odd things start to happen, worried they call in a reluctant and jaded paranormal investigator to help them.

Badly acted in the extreme but cheesy but fun

So I watched Olympus has fallen (2013) and like White House Down, it could have used Bruce Willis. Good special effects, idiotic ICBM software, incredibly thick walls with passages going thru them, etc. The best thing I could say was that I saw it for free.

The first half hour is the best. The assault on the White House was interesting. I wish that a movie could have a surprise play like in the book Red Storm Rising, Clancy's Russians taking Iceland in a bold surprise attack probably made military strategists scratch their heads in wonderment. I wish someone could make a film version of such a surprise in any movie. The two White House movies have attacks that aren't so inspired.

2.5 out of 5. Not bad, but think I would watch I, Tonya again if I could have my two hours back.

Smile This slow burning subtitled movie

Is well worth sticking with ,

Identical twin brothers begin to suspect their freshly arrived back from hospital and facially bandaged up mother is an impostor. Because she isn't how they remember her at all. Yet there they are. Stuck in a house miles away from anybody with a woman who insists no noises are made and all the blinds remain drawn. Despite it being the middle of summer. Weird huh ?. Why she doesn't even wish them sweet dreams at night anymore.

It`s what happens when they decide to confront this might be imposter that the film truly kicks into the highest gear.

Honestly is worth that wait though. A creep-tastic

Children Of The Corn Runaway

IMDB
YouTube Trailer

I've never been a real fan of the all franchise and don't consider the original Stephen King's novel a very good one. The first film from 1984 had its moments, so did the second one from the early 90s. But then the other cheap produced episode were dull or awful. I didn't have any hope regarding this new movie but as a horror fan, I had to watch it.

Well...it sucks. But it's not totally terrible. First of all Marci Miller, the actress who plays the main character, is really good and does a fine job as a young mother of one trying to escape the demon of the corn in a sort of Sarah Connor way, minus the all warrior things.

For 30 minutes or something, the director manages to create some sort of moody atmosphere, depicting an almost frightening rural america.
But the major issue with this film is probably that it has absolutely nothing to tell. The emptiness syndrome has done its work pretty well.
Children Of The Corn Runaway is supposed to length 82mn but gosh, was all this too long! It looked like the during was 2hrs or else. Nothing interesting happens. Nothing. And the ending is a very disappointing mess regarding the heroine and the implication of Marci Miller in her role.
Next time, count me off!
