Can I say that I'm glad you mentioned Crossbows and Catapults. I can remember seeing that advertised on TV at the time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMSG_qC_H2k It's not until you mentioned it that I suddenly remembered it! |

If playing Horizon Zero Dawn labels me a dweeb...it's a badge I wear proudly. I kick arse at this game.

@Everyone: Thank you for all of your responses so far.
I will admit that I tried spending 2-3 hours a morning, for about a week, learning how to work the Overworld tile set (world map tiles) on a large 250 * 160 sized map for the planet on which my RPG might take place. This sounds like an inordinate amount of time (~15-20 hours?!) but I learned it all the way, and made a believable planet that looks like a much larger Civilization map, which were only 50 * 80 back in the early '90s. Pictures may follow... |

What's a dweeb? Is it like a hobgoblin or something .
My first RPG was Might & Magic 2 on an Amstrad PC. My last (current) is Pillars of Eternity. I've never played the pen and paper variety or dressed up like a... dweeb? But for me they are the best computer games ever .

@gordian_knot: A "dweeb" is a lot like a "geek": a person who is completely inept with conversations, women, or style. A "nerd" used to be thought of in that way, but is now just anyone who has some intelligence and/or likes a certain subject (Macintosh, Star Wars, fantasy or science fiction) that requires intelligence to deeply understand. The "nerd" used to dress the same way as the "dweeb" or "geek", but not anymore. Things have changed in 25+ years since I was called a "nerd" on the first day of middle school in 1989.
But to answer your question completely, the "dweeb" is not a hobgoblin or an orc... Just an '80s term that is synonymous with being nerdy. |

@gordian_knot: And by the way, Jon Van Caneghem's first two Might & Magic games were my favorite games of the '80s in RPGs. Totally old-school on an Apple IIC with 128K of RAM!

I got an old Intellivison and some game cartridges that still work. The grandkids think it's some kind of hoax I'm perpetrating on them, but back then the graphics were the last word in state of the art.
