Majority of cyclists in my area don't see red lights, stop signs and give way signs as applying to them nor do they give way to pedestrians when turning into side streets, etc

Then they bitch about how they are unfairly treated

I'm annoyed by lazy car drivers who blame brave cyclists.

Today it's almost a penance to ride bicycle, when it is one of the most natural, safest, healthiest and ecological way to move.

There are far too many cars today.
I hope that our states will soon restrict cars on the road.

"Today only cars having the ending number "8" on their licence plate, can ride on the road, tomorrow only cars having the ending number "9", etc...

The problem we have here, and just talking about here
Car owners pay registration for their cars, trucks, vans, motorbikes, caravans, trailers, buses and so on, that money is meant to go for road maintenance and new roads ..... bicycles are not registered so they use the roads totally free and even have lanes set aside for bicycles only but they behave badly, both do really vehicle drivers and bike riders, the riders are worse though and that annoys the motorists who are paying for use of the roads.

Generalizing again, are we?

I'm the first to admit there are dumb cyclists out there, but that also counts for pedestrians and automobilists, truckdrivers, etc.

Gee Max, if you look at it this respect that it took a lot of willpower for him to give it to you rather than to eat it himself he was actually being quite kind and generous.

No one is questioning a cyclist's right to ride a bike, but they need to follow and obey the same rules and regulations that a car/motorist must, so as not to be a danger to himself or others!

Sure there are a lot of cars on the roads these days, and bike riding is good exercise and healthy for you, but a car is a necessity. Would you expect someone to pedal 20+ miles for a doctor's appointment or to go to work ... one would need to leave several hours ahead of time! Not very sensible or practical.

Even if the number of cars were able to be reduced and replaced by bikes, no doubt we would then be saying that there are far too many bikes out and about.

Interesting. There's a lot of angst here against cyclists. And yes some of them can be twats. There's a lot of call from car drivers about the need for bicycles to be registered. But for what really? Generally, if a cyclist breaks a law or even makes a stupid but legal move, who ends up getting impacted? Most of the time the cyclist themselves, sometimes a pedestrian or another cyclist, and very rarely a car driver and/or passenger. If a cyclist goes through a red light, how many times do they crash into and injure and kill the innocent people in a car travelling through the green light the other way. The majority cause of accidents on the roads are cars, trucks and motorbikes. All are registered. Cyclists and pedestrians are generally the victims, and very rarely the cause. They aren't registered. Even if they are the cause of an accident, it's almost zero chance they will abscond from the scene. Whether the cause or the victims of an accident, both cyclists and pedestrians are very high likelihood to be quite injured. I'd much prefer european style bike lanes totally separated from motorised traffic down here in the Antipodes. It's hysteria to call for cyclists to be registered - no value in doing it and would have almost zero impact on road tolls, and would cause significant bureaucracy increases.

I used to cycle to work and back a lot and thought myself a safe rider. The only time I almost got hurt was when an idiot passenger in a car thought it would be a good idea to hurl a can of drink at me as the car he was in drove past me riding in the cycle lane. Luckily he was an idiot as his aim was crap, and he didn't realise the car had to stop for a red light in the next 20 metres. So he got punched in the head for his trouble, as he left the window down while at said red light. Just once, and I rode home with no regrets about that.

Sounds like you and, I think, most other's are responsible riders. It is the ass hole riders who are the point of attack here IMO.
