Work

Tuesday - Friday

If I were a Native American/American Indian, I think I might have rather strong feelings about wanting Christopher Columbus's fleet to have been sunk by a hurricane in mid-ocean.

But I'm not. I'm an American of British descent. (Scottish, English, and a trace of Irish -- of which I rarely admit. But for the moment, well, what the hell. This IS, after all, a pretty anonymous environment.

) Anyways, having said that, let me also preface my following comments by saying that I DID vote for Obama and would do so again today.

So, don't get all carried away by calling me a racist when I say that if it were up to me, I'd throttle the first lazy, greedy bastard that came up with the idea of importing Africans to the New World as slaves.

The 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War is occurring now and events associated with it have been/are being discussed fairly regularly within a couple of threads here at VEF, including one with the exact title of "The American Civil War." Just think of the enormous carnage and destruction that would have been avoided during that tragic war if there had been no slavery in the first place.

A hell of a lot of discord and racial strife in this country over the subsequent 150 years would also have been avoided. And I think the affected Africans themselves (and a great many or possibly most of their descendants over the years) might also have agreed with me if given the chance.
