The Killers (1946)
Trailer Two hitmen arrive in a small New Jersey town to kill the gas station attendant Pete Lunn (Burt Lancaster), also known as the Swede. Even though he is warned by his coworker, the Swede makes no attempt to flee and stays in his hotel room where he's killed by the two men soon after. His life insurance company assigns investigator Jim Reardon (Edmond O'Brien) to locate the beneficiary of Lunn's policy. But Reardon decides to push his investigation a little further, much to the indignation of his boss, and discovers that Lunn is in fact the ex-boxer Ole Anderson who got mixed up with a bad crowd, especially the insidious dame Kitty Collins (Ava Gardner), his own femme fatale. Another must-watch film noir, directed by German-born Robert Siodmak and based on a short story by Ernest Hemingway. |

Io ho paura (1977)
In the 1970s, Italy was a hot spot of political violence. The policeman Ludovico Graziano (Gian Maria Volonté) witnesses the assassination of a judge and almost dies in the shootout himself. Graziano, like many colleagues, is a young man from the province who joined the police force because of the high unemployment rate in the country. Men like him are assigned to the most dangerous and politically immoral tasks. They are tired of risking their lives for corrupt politicians. Afraid for his life, Graziano asks to be transferred to a less risky job and is assigned to protect the old idealistic judge Cancedda (Erland Josephson) who is less likely to become the target of a politically motivated assassination. But the judge begins to dig where the upper echelons of the army and police don't want him to, pulling Graziano into something he wanted to get away from. Terrific euro crime/political thriller by Damiano Damiani who delivered quite a few similar genre gems in the 1970s. Io ho paura translates as I Am Afraid. Excellent plot and acting as well. |

Spider-Man Homecoming. My good lady has declared she is not coming with me to see any more superhero films as she is very concerned by the fact that she is starting to enjoy them.

Hobgoblins 2 (2009) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0962728/ 30 years later and some carbon copy versions of the original cast are studying at the mental hospital where the old security guard from the previous movie ended up. Say Hobgoblins three times and they will appear and you will be faced by your greatest fear ....... The only funny parts are those that parody or echo the first film, nothing of any originality here but I had to watch it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZ3tw8gzdfE

Giordano Bruno (1973)
Trailer The story follows the last years of Giordano Bruno (Gian Maria Volonté), the great free thinker and philosopher who was persecuted by the Catholic Church for his criticism of its power and religious dogmas. Bruno travels all over Europe, engaging in academic debates and offering his educational services to "enlightened" monarchs, in the hope that they will become great reformers but his hopes and aspirations are eventually betrayed. His final refuge is Venice where he finds some protection but the Church demands his extradition until Giordano Bruno falls victim to the Inquisition in 1600. |
