I don't know if you have American royalists in your country.
As French speaking person, I sometimes went on French royalist youtube channels.
They often (not always) are highly elitist, nationalist and racist.
But one fact is sure, in the past they 90% of the time were like that.
Today times are changing.
But if the herd became thin, it's because they didn't like that much to mix with the "common" people.

Doing a little googling, It appears Edward VIII had to abdicate for marrying a divorced American socialite. I thought I remembered it was something like that.

Doing a little more googling, I see that Meghan Markle is actually part black, and descended from American slaves.

I bet the Queen and the older generation of aristocrats aren't very pleased about that.

If Prince William, Duchess Kate, and all their children were somehow killed all at once in a plane crash I can see where things might get a tad awkward indeed.

On the other hand, if we Americans can have a black president, perhaps it is high time you Brits had a black monarch.

Mrs Simpson was several times divorced and had a certain reputation. 80 years ago was a different world and divorcees were not socially acceptable. Google more and you'll find the Premiers of Aus and Canada were dead set against the marriage (her reputation rather than being an American).
What's wrong with being part black and descended from slaves, though American is a bit dodgy.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I guess if Edward VIII were alive today he could probably assume the throne without any problems.

There is of course nothing wrong with being black, I'm just saying that among the elderly in certain upper-crust circles there will probably be hands pressed to mouths and utterances like "Good Lord! The prince married a NEGRO?!"

One must giggle at their discomfiture.

Insofar as Miss Markle being an American, perhaps she will inject a certain American freshness into your tired old aristocratic circles. The shoe is now on the other foot.

I guess the plane crash scenario is out, regarding the possibility of future Britons having to tug their forelocks to a black King or Queen. Still, something else could happen, plague, nuclear war, etc.

The good news was that even in the ultra-nationalist United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) this outburst was received with calm and polite disgust and it led directly to the enforced removal of the rabid woman's boyfriend, Henry Bolton as leader of the party, in spite of his refusal to step down. On his side, Prince Michael of Kent (the Queen's first cousin and a grandson of King George V) renounced his claim to the throne and dropped out of the line of succession in order to be legally allowed to marry her. Fucking nonsense really; why shouldn't they have married one another without any of this crap? In 2013 the coalition government, in a rare flash of common sense, passed the Succession to the Crown Act to abolish the Catholic prohibition, and restored the Duke of Kent to the line of succession, just for the record. 45 people would need to die before Prince Michael can be crowned, which would be quite a busy afternoon.

There is a lot of American blood in British aristocratic circles already. Winston Churchill, who came from the Duke of Marlborough's family, had an American mother. The British aristocracy had expensive habits and usually lacked talent or initiative, were lazy and disdainful of anyone who worked hard to earn their living; and often were well below average intelligence, probably due to inbreeding and the widespread effects of hereditary syphilis.

The British aristocracy were often forced to marry for money and this was the usual way for wealthy commoners to social-climb. Wealthy American heiresses were often the way to repair aristocratic finances. I must say that if I had been the father of such an heiress I would not be keen for her to marry a British aristocrat on the grounds of eugenics, not wanting to put up with idiot grandchildren fathered by such worthless men.

I have nothing against Prince William and Princess Catherine and wouldn't want anything bad to happen to them or their kids. But if it did, I could cope with King Harry and Queen Meghan.
