The reason you ahve laws is to stop crimes. The reason the City of New York has to pay compensation - and I only have your word for it - is that they acted illegally. Just because you dislike Muslims, that does not mean you should insult them unecessarily. In her religion, removing the Hijab is bad. If the police station truly had too few officers, they could have waited to book her until they did. She has not been found guilty of a crime, so you do not get inflict punishment. Your religion has rules that others find idiotic, too - and the US causes more offence world-wide with pig-ignorance than any other country I can think of. If you feel that showing your face to a judge is some form of punishment, then you are free to leave. If you are not willing to adhere to the mores of the culture that has invited you, then you are not an immigrant, you are an invader.

That may be a local ordinance, but backing into parking places in diagonal parking is dangerous as it requires driving against one way traffic both to enter and leave in addition to the greater risk of backing into another vehicle. Frankly, it is very annoying to encounter the jerks who insist upon driving the wrong way in narrow parking lot aisles.

What neither you nor vannax seems to understand is that California has always had a population of at least 30% Hispanic origin since it was stolen from Mexico in an unprovoked war of aggression. The state's multi billion a year agricultural industry runs on low paid immigrant labor as does much manufacturing and tourism. The net result of barring the immigrants has been higher prices and less fresh imported produce. Typically, a family would start out as migrant farm workers. The next generation would become factory workers, laborers or trades people. Then, the next generation would be business owners or professionals. Really talented individuals have made the jump directly from fields to the legislature. We have similar phenomena with Asian immigrants, with the exception that many go directly from our universities or H-1B visas to citizenship. California is definitely not a mostly homogeneous country with limited immigration until recent times like England.

What has inflamed many of our ethnic communities is many instances of ICE deporting citizens and legal residents, or of holding parents of small children, or of violently arresting parents in front their children. As many as half the people who are arrested are subsequently released and too many legal residents are mistreated. That is not to mention the many folks who may have come here without papers but quietly behaved as good citizens who are deported back to violent, crime ridden areas some 20 and 30 years later. And what of the business owners who have their labor force illegally hauled off the job?

As for not being racist, I know that I am a racist despite being very much opposed to institutional and systemic racism.

I am reading on the Internet of British negotiators seeking to leave the EC with the privileges of membership, but not the unpleasant duties. Or of continued difficulties in assimilating ethnic minorities. And a resurgence of political violence. It seems as if you have plenty to concern yourself with in your own backyard.

Forgive me, but my ancestors fled British rule in England, Ireland, and Wales and I have a rather dim view of its equity. My Indian and Palestinian neighbors don't think much of it either. And by the way, y'all need a healthier diet and to quit housing yor senior citizens in fire traps.
