How can we acknowledge, face, let alone solve problems if we are not even allowed to talk about them because it's not PC? I for one would be glad to be warned about dangerous areas, rather than finding out the hard way. I mean, they do warn people not to go yachting around Somalia, don't they? Or is that also considered non-PC these days?

Well that is the problem. Here we face it all the time when talking about immigration issues. It was also seen when all those who voted out of the EU were branded racists. If we were as large a country as some in Europe or the US or Australia it wouldn't be such an issue. However we only have a finite amount of space, school places, hospital places and jobs etc. So we have to talk about it, we have to say its time to stop uncontrolled immigration. Yet when you do you are called a racist because they argue you don't want immigrants. Its not that at all, we and the millions who voted for Brexit don't mind immigration, its uncontrolled immigration thats the problem. However we are not allowed to talk about it for fear of being branded racist or xenophobic.
As you say, if you cannot talk about because someone will be offended or offended on someone elses behalf how can we solve the issues. |

Actually, just using bull wouldn't have sufficed... that one was such shit that it needed bull, bison, and buffalo to accurately describe the totality of shit in that post. Quote:

It's an old trick in America for a certain segment of the political population to, for lack of having a substantive argument, call their opponents racists, sexist, bigots, homophobes, whatever in an attempt to silence them. Most of the time it works. You speak of uncontrolled immigration.. in America the issue is, of course, illegal immigration. There are many Americans who are sick of the issues surrounding the invading hordes.. and when they speak about the ills of uncontrolled, illegal immigration, their pro-amnesty opponents conveniently leave off the "illegal" part in an attempt to make them look like they're against ALL immigration. Big difference. But facts don't matter to some. Prime example: During his 1996 State of the Union address, then President Bill Clinton addressed the issue of illegals and promised to secure the borders, deport the illegals, punish companies that hire illegals, hire more INS agents (before they were ICE), and the like. He received a standing ovation from every member of congress, and was heralded by the media as the greatest president of our generation. There was no outcry from the public, no sob stories, nothing. Fast forward to today... Donald Trump rallies people with his plan to deal with illegals that mirrors what Clinton said 20 years prior. Other than a different delivery style, his 10 point plan to deal with illegals is much like Clinton's was. Unlike Clinton, he is relentlessly savaged by the media and characterized as some sort of hate monger by members of congress and 99% of the talking heads in the press. The only difference: party affiliation. That, and Trump won't be cowed by the press.

The other thing that pisses me off is the term racist attack when used by the media. If a black person is attacked by non blacks its nearly always called a racist attack. Racial hatred was behind it they claim. However when the roles are reversed and its blacks on non blacks its often reported as simply assault. Why the difference? Is racism only applicable to blacks? Can a black person not be racist to a non black person in the media's eyes? Its annoying and in fact causes more problems as it makes it seems like the race card is being played when in fact its not, its just the media causing shit.
Yes your point about certain words, in the case of illegal in illegal immigrants, is something we also see here a lot in the media. It then makes it seems that all immigrants are not wanted when in fact that's not the case at all. As I said most people here have no issues with immigration as it helps the economy in many areas. Some areas along the east coast for example would turn into deprived ghost towns without seasonal immigration. Its just that unlike other countries we are a small island, we only have so many resources and currently they are at tipping point. Kids already cannot get into local schools. Some people are waiting months to see a dentist, weeks to see a doctor and years to be housed. Something needs to be done but by saying control immigration you are seen as racist and that is wrong. Its not racist its just common sense. If you have 100 car park spaces you cannot let 200 into the car park, it really is that simple. Last edited by snowy25; September 8th, 2016 at 12:40 PM.. |

How's this for a twisted form of PC, heard about it on the radio yesterday.
In Sydney, there is a hairdresser that has decided to cater for gay men only, not straight men but gay only.... so who fucking cares, straight men didn't care less but it is a weird form of discrimination and putting people into certain classes Anyway who decided to kick up a minor shot about it a feminist group fair enough, just trying to bring down walls I guess But ask yourself, why on Earth would a womens group want to go into a place where they're not really wanted

I suspect they are also the same type of people who do not see the irony in positive discrimination or affirmative action as its known in the US. The same sort of people who say they hate anyone homosexual but will happily sit on their PC and watch two women getting it on.
The world is full of people who think they are PC but in fact are the complete opposite and end up causing more trouble. We have had it here. City Councillors who try to ban Xmas events because they're afraid Muslims or other minorities might be upset. Muslims then get the blame when its the white middle class Muppet sitting in an office who made the ruling. He/She is trying to be politically correct but is actually causing more tension. Please Excuse My Rant
Quote:
It kind of frosts me that the assumption is made that I owe something more to African Americans. My great, great grandfather entered the Union army from Michigan at the age of thirty-five despite having three children under 10 years of age. He was discharged in early 1863 due to the lingering effects of cholera. His two brothers were in an Ohio regiment as that was where all the siblings were born. One was killed in the Battle of Chattanooga, the other in a minor skirmish in Georgia. Why is it forgotten that at least 300,000 white men died in the Union army during that war? My family made atonement in blood. Furthermore, the ancestors of those Americans of Southern and Eastern European descent weren't even here until after that war. Middle Easterners didn't arrive until the 20th century. Some perspective is needed. If it were up to me the freed slaves would have been given land from the estates they worked ante bellum and livestock, but I am powerless to change the past. |

A quick one for the weekend:
Brown University has installed tampon dispensers in men's restrooms across campus. Viet Nguyen, President of the Undergraduate Council of Students, announced the initiative in a campus-wide email Tuesday, saying he wants to communicate the message that not all people who menstruate are women. I must have missed something in biology. There will be no end to this shit.
