Tip for finding magazine models

While our favorite models often posed over a number of years and appeared in dozens of magazines, most models pose only once. The photographers shop the pictures to various magazines, and hopefully a few editors buy and publish them.

This creates the result that for most models, magazine appearances cluster within a few months. For example, a model might appear in a half dozen magazines over three to six months, and is never seen again in print. Example: Tarri Micas appeared in many magazines 1976 Q4 and 1977 Q1, and in very few magazines after that.

If you have one magazine and you're looking for a specific model - and especially for those not well known - the most likely place to find them is in similar magazines within a few months of the magazine you have.

Also, a model is more likely to be in other titles from the same publisher, as well as other titles of the same genre.

For example, models who appeared in Cavalier often also appeared in Nugget (same publisher), and models who appeared in Fling often also appeared in Gent (different publisher, same genre).

However, many publishers store up a large supply of models they think will be popular, and dribble them out for years.

Also, keep in mind that many models went by multiple names.. in the circle of models I've always followed, the average is three.

Or try Google's "search by image" function. Go to google, select image search and click on the little camera icon in the search field.

It will prompt "search by image"

Click on "upload an image"

Next you'll get a browse prompt - select it.

Browse your hard drive and post an image of the mystery model.

It works fairly well. You will get plenty of results but be selective of which ones you choose to link to. They are all safe but some are ads and/or a waste of time.

However, do not write to the publisher because they will probably tell you that there are no issues available.

I gave this a go with a model I've been trying to track down & I got images of vaguely similar looking women... and a dog! It was a very pretty dog mind you! L.O.L!
