Not King Diamond's best album but my favorite. This record is the link between the old Mercyful Fate sound and the direction that King Diamond was about to take. The guitars here are very atmospheric and dark. Like ambient music without synths.

But it's only eerie until he starts to, well, sing.

I ran into this soundtrack by accident. Growing up in the 1990ies, the usual soft porn you would see on TV was the shit for a junior pervert like me. Not everyone had access to internet or even knew what that was. The internet? I knew about Interspar, the supermarket chain but, obviously, there was no relation. So, all the porn in cyberspace was kept secret from me. But times weren't that bad. There was this weird show every Tuesday night on Austrian TV called "Zalman King's Red Shoe Diaries". I had no idea this was its original title because it was aired as "David Duchovny's Erotische Tagebücher". How do you get from Zalman King to David Duchovny and what's the X-files guy doing there? Those were some defining question of the 90ies, especially if you had no internet or knew what the internet was. Well, long story short, discovering this soundtrack a couple of days ago invoked some funny memories and dissapointments. The "erotic diaries" weren't erotic at all. And don't ask: I don't know why I'm telling you this. I could have just posted what I was listening to and moved on. Perhaps I'm trying to justify the rather embarrassing musical mood I'm currently in?

You don't have to read this crap. As stated above, I don't know what I'm talking about. But there's one thing I know! You can't rename "Zalman King's Red Shoe Diaries" to "David Duchovny's Erotische Tagebücher". What happened to the concept of justice and decency?
