You cannot libel the dead; this is a well established legal principle. Mr Jackson's representatives, in his lifetime, settled a legal action out of court for $2m. I don't know whether Mr Jackson was guilty or innocent. However, if he was innocent, his decision to settle was ill-considered. If Mr Jackson was innocent of the charges, his correct action must have been to defy the accusers and clear his name, not pay them off and spend the next decade saying "no comment" whenever anyone asked him whether he did it or not. Settling out of court left a bad smell.

My one question to MJ would be: "Why didn't you stand up for your good name when you had a chance to do so?"

But you see, since he didn't, I as a moderator don't feel obliged to do it for him. If he had resisted the first charges rather than buying the accusers off, if he had fought for his good name, I would defend him here, on this thread, today; as matters stand I don't see why I should. Neither do I see why anyone should be frowned upon for raising the issue of extremely questionable conduct for which Mr Jackson never defended himself. Mr Jackson's reputation is fair subject matter for discussion here.

You can violate the rules of VEF; this is also a well established principle, and the specific rule:
