As a 18/19 year old I remember buying from newsagents, always at a quiet time of day and usually served by older women who would spend what seemed like a long time looking for the price.
I do remember one memorable time, I was buying 3 magazines at once as I hadn't bought for a while. The woman who was serving was in her 40s looked over them and said "you are going to be busy!". I agreed and later on her prediction was true! Still makes me smile now |

I got huge rush when I bought a porn mag at a liquor store near my house or on my way home from school. I usually bought Penthouse,Club,Genesis,Galery or Playboy. I would get a solid hard-on going over which mag at the stand I would buy, thinking about which one I would be masturbating to, when I got home. My uncut cock would get so hard if there was a woman at the counter. Sometimes the girl behind the counter went to the same school as me. I bet she told her friends about me buying girlie mags to jerk off to. Either way I stroked my cock real good and had some powerful jizz shots. My journey enhanced my masturbating

I was always nervous when buying smut for that very reason. I was sure that someone I knew who would not approve would walk into the shop at the very moment I was standing at the counter, mags in hand, waiting to pay. I was also very self-conscious if it was a female serving at the till. Particularly a pretty girl. If it was a pretty girl, more often than not I'd just leave and go find another shop if I wasn't in a hurry. Older women not so much, they probably saw the same thing several times a day and they were generally pretty cool and non-judgemental about it (no disapproving looks etc.). But you don't always rationalise it like that at the time, so it could still be a bit embarrassing. If it was a bloke serving, it wasn't so bad. On one occasion (I'd have been about 16 at the time), I was in a newsagent's shop at the till paying for a copy of "Whitehouse" (the Sullivan mags, which with hindsight were pretty tame, were the nearest thing to hardcore on open sale in the UK at the time), when suddenly another customer - a fearsome old battleaxe of a woman - appeared at my shoulder and started lecturing me very loudly and very angrily about how disgusting such material was and how I should be ashamed of myself for looking at it and what would my mother think if she knew blah blah blah. With hindsight I should have told her to "go forth" and mind her own business. Or maybe said something 'clever' like "I suppose a toothless blow-job's out of the question then granny?!" But as it was she took me so much by surprise that I was just rooted to the spot and said nothing. The guy at the till took my cash, at which point I beat a hasty exit from the shop - mag stashed under my jacket - and I never went back there again.

Nightmare scenario for you, though, and fortunately nothing like that ever happened to me. The worst I had was when (I have told this one before), the pretty girl who had just served me (with a bit of back chat thrown in for good measure), whispered "wanker" as I left the shop. Whispered it, but loud enough for me to hear. I still feel a twinge on embarrassment about that even now, and it is probably nearly 25 years ago!

I always preferred to be served by a 40s woman, but not a really big turn on or anything. What was sometimes arousing was if the girl on the front of the magazine was in a particularly horny pose - say a model with large tits hardly covered or full length shots in lingerie, then I found it a bit arousing to hand over the counter to see their reaction. Usually it was just the long search for the price though
It's funny to look back to how it was frowned upon as something bad to be doing - enjoying a magazine of naked women. It feels very tame now compared to the ubiquitous nature of porn now. |

Most of my early porn-mag buying adventures took place at a newsagents not too far from where I lived, usually to get either Mayfair or the UK edition of PH. Looking back, I gave myself ample opportunity to bump into people I knew!
There was a definitely a thrill, and the attendant twitching in the loins. It was a kind of intoxicating feeling, a mixture of the "naughtiness" of it all, together with expectations of what delights would be within the pages of the mags, and also excitement at this new pastime. I can't really remember being that concerned about who was working behind the counter at the shop, provided that I could buy the mags and make a quick exit, with the minimum of fuss. One thing I do recall is sometimes wearing a coat or heavy jacket, even at the height of summer, in order to conceal my purchases on the journey home! Later on, the novelty slowly began to diminish, and buying the magazines became as mundane and routine as purchasing a newspaper or a packet of sweets! I remember buying a copy of FHM back in the late nineties in Belfast. Not a top shelf magazine but it did have a woman in a bikini on the cover. It was busy but I didn't think twice about buying it. At the counter the old woman serving me asked in a loud and stern voice if I'd like a bag for my magazine. I replied "No" but she said I'd better have one anyway and she proceeded to put it in a bag. With a line of people behind me in the queue, it was a very embarrassing situation and I almost felt like holding the magazine up and shouting "Look, It's NOT a wank mag!". |

I talked about my friend, that ask his half dumb brother to buy or rent porn vhs for us; but my friend too was an hero, because he, whithout shame, when our hormones was going out of control and his brother was out of range, was able to buy a porn mag with a face like a stone mask. Very quick: take the mag (targeted time before), read and showing the price to the dude and give money (exact amount) in 5 seconds. Then escape with large walks turning around the box. Damn, I can't do this, ahah!

...except, there's one incident from my student days in the 80's that sticks in my mind- I was on my way to a lecture at uni, and called in at a nearby newagent for nothing more exciting than the daily paper and a fresh pad of A4, and as I walked in, noticed a young guy about my age scanning the top shelf, as you do... Anyway, as I headed to the counter, there was a quite a queue, and he'd just got there ahead of me, with a copy of 'Fiesta'. At the end of the queue, there was a young woman (and an attractive one at that), waiting to pay for whatever she's bought- he walks up to her, they exchange a few words, which make it pretty clear they're a couple, and here's the bit that blew my mind- rather than queue up, he hands his 'Fiesta' to her, so she can take it to the till and pay for it! I mean, I was barely out of my teens, and at that age, the thought that some women might actually be OK with their boyfriends looking at top shelf mags, or even enjoy looking at one with him was a totally alien concept to me. Later on, I even wondered whether he'd sent in some pics of her for Readers' Wives, and if she might be in that month's issue, so picked up a copy for myself later that day- Sadly she wasn't...
