I've just seen a robin hopping about in my back garden.

Do robins go away for the winter or do they hibernate?

They mainly stay put - and some Scandinavian birds migrate here as it's a tad warmer for them. I do hope they all get on together...

Free movement of avians.

In the U.S. robins will stay through the winter only if they have a stable food supply available, such as dormant insects or seeds, or a special tree that I often see that makes these reddish berries that robins feed upon. Otherwise the robins in October start to gather in large groups and then lift off together in great swarms and head south to their winter habitats. Spring is finally here in Chicago, but I have not seen my first robin yet.

So how come I never see any robins in the winter ?

Apart from those soppy ones on Christmas f*cking cards of course.

I wonder if Scottish robins bugger off south to England in the winter!?!

How about swans? There's a big lake across from my house and it's full of huge swans in the summer, dangerous big bastards that attack dogs - but as I look out just now there's only two swans floating about - one's flapping it's big wings right now.

There is a robin which lives in my mother's back garden or very close by. It can't be the same one, but there has been a robin living there since I was ten and we moved into it as a brand new house. Maybe robins murder their parents like water rats do.

Depends on how long a time period it is.

Because of high mortality in the first year of life, a robin has an average life expectancy of 1.1 years; however, once past its first year it can expect to live longer and one robin has been recorded as reaching 19 years of age.

The assumption wasn't made that 27 m Americans follow DT's Tw****r feed, nor that all subscribers to Fox News reside in the U.S., but the approximate population of America was quoted because both are American, and to state that of e.g. 2 billion Chinese...etc wouldn't have had so much wow factor.
Your point is taken though vince: I will have to be more careful with my punctuation in future.

Just to clarify things of course Londoners are scared we wouldn't be human if we weren't BUT we don't let it get to us. Since the bad old days of the bombings of the IRA in London and around the country we learnt to be more vigilant with anything suspicious like packages or other items(when we had a Town Hall nearby some idiot left his briefcase in a doorway and the traffic was stopped, the police were called etc but no-one panicked) and that is the key to keeping calm and carrying on-as the slogan goes. Yes we are scared of being blown up or attacked but life in London and all the other cities that are threatened has to go on and so that is what we do, and will always do.
