Part 9 of my Jason Voorhees marathon os delayed as I have had to buy Jason Goes to Hell again

meanwhile ...... starting on

Subspecies (1991)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103002/

The king of vampires calls his two sons to their ancestral castle in Transylvania, the evil elder (and more gruesome looking) son Radu kills their father to obtain the Bloodstone, a mystic stone that contains the strength vampires can usually only obtain by drinking blood. The other brother Stefan tries to fight him but Radu is stronger.
A party of three female American history students arrive to add a touch of sex to the horror element

I love this series of films

I don't know. Unless you made it a prequel, with Dr Manhattan gone and Rorschach dead I'm not sure where you'd take it. But you're right it is hugely underrated. IMHO, after Psychokinesis, the best superhero film yet made.

SKYSCRAPER

Can a former FBI operative, now security consultant stop a group of terrorists and save his family from a beyond towering inferno?

One of the best things about this movie is that it doesnt horse around. If you want action it gives you action. One sequence was so thunderous and bad ass i almost applauded.Praise to the sound mixers/editors.
Dwayne Johnson has charisma and then some plus mix in some every man charm.
Im glad Neve Campbell wasnt side lined in the movie. She's given a nice foundation to work with.
The CGI generated tower The Pearl was a mixture of something from Krypton and Elysium.
The SFX were done well. This was the first time in awhile in which i said wow i wonder how this scene would have looked in 3D.Some good fights and kills throughout the movie.

The problems i had with the movie:I've said it before certain actors show up in a film and i know exactly what path they are going to go down which is usually a sinister one.
Ultra predictable turns and plotholes bring the film down a few levels.
A lot of the baddies are not given much to do and are just easily dispatched.
Some of the visuals were way off. There are huge leaps of suspension of disbelief.

This would make for a good rental and please do yourself a favor and watch it in 4K HD !!

Scale of 1-10 a 6 ½

Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107254/

The opening scene is almost like they were making a film about Jason as he is caught in the crossfire of a SWAT style ambush and blown to smithereens. The remains are taken to a morgue for an autopsy ... during the autopsy the separated heart starts to beat so if you were a coroner what do you reckon is the best thing to do, burn it, chop it up, pour acid on it .... er no .... you eat it
The film delves into the background of Jason, his family and his supernatural existence as a series of murders appears to be leading towards Camp Crystal Lake However, Jason is not the only psycho in the area.

Tried to watch this last night for the first time in mabye a decade as I just bought the unrated cut but the disk locks up every time I go to the play movie button on the menu.
I actually really liked this entry in the series in past viewings.
Its different for sure but it has possibly the best most decent acting cast of the franchise. Best gore, not the best but a solid Jason design & a great ending.

I watched HBO's "Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind" - https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry...b03c418967f2d4
I had to look up the words "Sibilance" - http://www.dictionary.com/browse/sibilance and "Lewy Body Dementia" https://www.nia.nih.gov/health/what-lewy-body-dementia

Robin Williams was a unique talent and this show brought back a lot of memories and a ton of videos that I had never seen before.

All I can say was that it was well worth watching and I miss Mr. Williams. All the clichés about rare talents and outstanding individuals are true in this case.

My favorite scene was at a Critic's Choice Awards show - 2003. A bad copy of it is on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bb7303ukNtk

Came across this just now.

Tully (2018)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5610554/

Charlize Theron gained 50 lbs for this film that even her own youngest child thought she was pregnant.

She did so by eating in-and-out burgers and junk food and macaroni and cheese at 2 am.

It took her over 1 1/2 years to shed the 50 lbs.

She better get her Oscar acceptance speech for Best Actress ready.

The Redwood Massacre (2014)
- Killer's outfit & mask are solid.
- Gore & brutality is on fully display. Killer has a tendency to outright punch his victims both male & female which is something you don't see in slashers that often and is kinda jarring.
- It does go a little too far into torture porn territory early on.
- 3 females of the cast do a good job at their roles. 1 of whom is grating & annoying by design but gains your sympathy towards the end.
- Zero nudity sadly.
- Forest & field cinematography is beautiful. Once inside the killer's barn it gets way more filtered & overly murky at times. Stalking scenes at night have harsh unnatural lighting.
- The film suggest the killer is supernatural & hints (both verbally & by the reveal of the possible scale of the slaughter taking place during the final showdown) that the location of these events is some kinda limbo that is impossible to simply drive out of. But the ending doesn't address it at all.
- In the end it's a simply ok slasher. It's not meta or humorous at all, plays things dead straight & bleak.

The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (1972)

Stars: Paul Newman, Ava Gardner, Roy Jenson, Victoria Principal, Jacqueline Bisset; Anthony Perkins, Ned Beatty, Roddy McDowall John Huston, Stacy Keach

Storyline (sourced from IMDb):
Quote:
It's the turn of the nineteenth into twentieth centuries in Vinegaroon, Texas, west of the Rio Pecos, an area known for its general lawlessness. Due largely to an incident which nearly kills him, outlaw Roy Bean (Paul Newman) appoints himself the judge for the region, he setting up his residence and court in what was previously the saloon and whorehouse in town. He figures he has the moral authority and knowledge of the laws of Texas to become a judge in what was his flagrant disregard of those laws up to this point. He presides over court with a book of Texas statutes in front of him and his fan worship of actress Lillie Langtry (Ava Gardner) in the form of large posters of her behind him. He also appoints a band of fellow outlaws as his marshals, who work solely under his direction. Standing by him through these proceedings is a young Mexican woman named Maria Elena (Victoria Principal), who saved him from that near death incident, she, in what is to look proper, living in the small shack next to the saloon instead of with him in the saloon. He becomes renowned for brandishing his form of largely illegal justice, which usually ends in the person on trial being convicted on loose judgments and hanged outside the saloon. As an odd and interesting assortment of people (and some non-humans) pass through Vinegaroon and Roy's life, he is able to build the town largely in his vision. But as he has many detractors, the question becomes how long he will last before someone hits the big target that is on his back.

I've always liked this offbeat Western ever since discovering it during my teenage years.
To quote from The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (another great Western): "When the legend becomes fact, print the legend."
