I watched "Whiteout" (2009) on cable. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whiteout_(2009_film) The movie starts with a Soviet AN 12 cargo plane flying over snowy landscape in 1957. This wasn't as inaccurate as I thought, the plane looked really modern to me for 1957, but the plane's production did start in December 1957, accepted into Soviet service in 1959 - so not that inaccurate. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonov_An-12
After that sequence of events, the film switches to modern times with Kate Beckinsale as a deputy US Marshal in a remote Antarctic station who only has a few days before a major storm shuts down all transport away for six months. She doesn't really do nudity and the film isn't that interesting so my mind did keep wandering to that modern Soviet cargo aircraft. I did look up the production date of the C-130 Hercules - which first flight was August 1954 - so the Soviet design wasn't that groundbreaking. Yeah, I did mention the film wasn't that interesting, didn't I. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 21% like rating, so they didn't really care for it either. Guess I kept expecting Kurt Russell with a flamethrower chasing the thing to appear. Just a film about greedy people willing to murder to get some items. No nudity. I'd suggest trying to find something else to watch. |

OCEAN'S 8
Debbie Ocean(Sandra Bullock) assembles a team of women to pull off a seemingly impossible heist....shades of the previous Ocean films follow. I enjoyed watching these wonder women on the big screen together which include :Bullock ,Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham-Carter, and Cate Blanchett oh and i cant leave out Anne Hathaway as a conceited and needy actress. They were all charming ,funny and lovely. There's a smooth and beautiful flow to the film especially in it's first half. The planning of the heist, and the details of it really appealed to me as it plays out on the screen. My major gripes with the movie:The inclusion of a certain character, the explanation of why the character was doing something didnt ring true to me. The pacing of the film's last act was a bit drawn out ,not as bad or as boring as the late pacing of 2004's Ocean's 12 but boy did i start to feel this films running time. In the end i got a fun heist film with some flaws but the talent on screen cant be denied. Scale of 1-10 a 7½ Hotel Artemis Gone are the days of when a criminal had to run to the local paid off veterinarian or disgraced doctor to extract bullets and get stitched up...well at least in this movie anyway and the movie im talking about is Hotel Artemis. Criminals can receive all types of medical care and in this film alltypes of criminals converge on the hotel,in which secrets are revealed bullets fly while the biggest riot in California rages outside. Jodie Foster is definitely the standout as the no nonsense Nurse, who upholds the Artemis rules.I knew there was more to her than met the eye,and couldnt wait for her tale to be revealed. As her assistant Everest Dave Bautista turns in another good performance. As Acapulco Charlie Day was definitely tolerable and i loved the one liner he kept stating to one of the characters. As Waikiki Sterling K. Brown and as his brother, Honolulu Brian Tyree Henry are definitely memorable. Sofia Boutella was outstanding as the assasin Nice (if they ever make another big screen Daredevil movie i hope they cast Boutella as Elektra) As Wolf King Jeff Goldblum is great as usual but his time on screen is all to brief. Speaking of brief i found the abrupt stopping of some scenes jarring. Some had no real conclusion,as if it was saying to the viewer you fill in the blanks !! I went in thinking i was going to get wall to wall action but in the end i got brief explosions of action that were well choreographed....but i wanted more !! HA is a fun grind house romp but i was expecting more bang for my bucks !! Scale of 1-10 a 7½ Adrift Based on a true story Adrift tells the tale of two lover's and their struggle to survive after their boat is overtaken by a hurricane and they are left Adrift. Shailene Woodley as Tami Oldham and Richard Sharp as Sam Claflin do a good job as the couple who fall madly in love almost instantly. There are strong visuals that connect to harrowing scenes of survival coupled with scenes of raw emotion. My main problem with the movie:Is it's transition from scene to scene because the film makers chose to structure the movie out of sequence.I would say 85% of the movie takes place at sea there's a scene of the couple having a nice sunset romantic night on the boat, that quickly shifts to a sunny, sun burned and barely holding on to sanity scene, then back to romance, then back to chaos. Some of these scenes where shot with the same overhead shot that it was confusing to know where i was in the film chaos or romance? I felt disconnected from the story ,i just found it to be jarring and obnoxious. Then something occurs that i just rolled my eyes at several times,it just didnt fit in this type of movie IMO. Scale of 1-10 a 7 |

Sitting through it (Well was daft enough to buy a ticket too ) began to query (I said Queer He ) whether Paul Feig (Sorry for swearing ) or Rian Johnson (Sorry for REALLY swearing ) had directed that dull arsed snore fest Not even Bryce Dallas Howard could make this 170 million (Plus nearly same again for promotion) generic shite worth a watch Oh and as for Chris (Same old same old) Pratt I used to like him. Until realised he`s not actually bloody acting. From Parks and Recreation onwards it`s just been Chris being Chris. Now I`m sick of seeing the prat , and seeing him so often. Being himself in films while getting paid millions for our privilege. Hey only John (Trailmaster) Wayne could be excused doing that , not you numbnuts !.

The Post 2017
A Steven Spielberg film with Tom Hanks, Meryl Street, plus a couple of unexpected lesser actors - Matthew Rhys who plays the lead role in The Americans TV show and Bob Odenkirk, who plays Saul, in Better Call Saul. I had quite high hopes for this production, having spent a fair part of my life in publishing and the media, which gives me a fair idea how this movie's storyline would have been handled. It describes disclosure of the Pentagon Papers, with the film receiving loads of US awards. The stolen Pentagon Papers outlined some of Washington's thinking behind the Vietnam War and secret planning. As I recall, their release was quite damaging to the administration. Unfortunately, I found much of the film rather boring, lacking excitement and the details appeared to be hyped up to some degree. For me, it just didn't work and I can't see this appealing to an average audience as it didn't have the kind of flair and intensity sometimes seen in the excellent (IMHO) TV newspaper series Lou Grant from the late 70s. Sorry to say, about 5/10 is the best I can come up with. |

I watched 15:17 to Paris on Blu Ray. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_15:17_to_Paris
The movie shows the three guys as they grew up until the event on the train. The guy who was the first to charge the terrorist seemed like a jerk as a kid. The fact that this kid who liked guns, wore camouflage and wanted to be in the military - turned out to be a hero - must have burned the butts of the liberals in the US. Clint did the best he could with the material. At least he didn't add a lot of made up filler to the story. Although much has been made of the Americans in this incident, a 28 year old French man only identified as Damien A actually - because he was waiting to use the bathroom the terrorist emerged from - was the first to confront the attacker. He actually got the terrorist in a chokehold so that another American who eventually got shot was able to take the AK47 away from the at that moment subdued terrorist. I don't really know what Damien A did after the terrorist got away from him to pursue the American who took the AK47. The terrorist used a pistol to shoot the fleeing AK47 holding American and was able to retrieve his weapon. This usually very reliable weapon jammed when the terrorist tried to use it on the three Americans the film is centered on. I would not bet on an AK47 jamming. The American who had the AK47 first must not have been familiar with weapons as he did not try to use it in anyway to subdue the struggling terrorist. The second American - who was in the US Army - who got his hands on the weapon is shown using it to help beat the hell out of the terrorist while the other ones choked him out. All in all, an OK movie but nothing new to learn - not that entertaining. 2 of 5 stars from me. |

Just watched Identity.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0309698/ I won't give the movie's twist away just in case some folks here hadn't seen it. But to those who have and and still remember what it was, I think they probably feel the same way I do: there is no way!! The only good thing about this film was Amanda Peet. |

They could be speaking about anything in German from going to the sweet shop or tipping the dustman to avoid a nasty Christmas incident. I was very sceptical as it was Christian Bale, but I can understand people not liking the film. |

Narratively ,
Is all over the place . Which is a shame because the tale of charismatic mind reading charlatan trickster Adam Stein (Jeff Goldblum) is a decent one. Certainly the deftly handled flashbacks to his time as the most celebrated illusionist magician clown comedian in Berlin , and then how he survived in a concentration camp. The meat of the film is what he does in the psychiatric asylum for Holocaust survivors he`s been committed to and sort of influences. He suffers tremendous survivors guilt. Yet is only alive due to making fun of a man who ultimately ends up having the power of life and death over him. Won't say any more in case you stream it. Since anything else I could say would be a spoiler. Critics disliked it (Maybe if it`d been made by Disney they`d be shilling to a different tune ). However I think it`s worth a watch. None of the actors seen are in the least shabby. Whereas Jeff Goldblum is superb

Interior (2014)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3432286/ After a couple find a mysterious letter is in their new home they hire, Sam the wife's ex boyfriend, who happens to be a wannabe filmmaker, to try and capture evidence of the supernatural events they believe are centred on young daughter and an entity known to the daughter as Emily, starts off slow but picks up apace as the night goes on but will he see Emily play? Lots of annoying video effects somewhat spoil it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3JRn97hmVI
