The Irish Independence thread
As Scotland edges towards it's vote should us Irish be given a vote on independence or more independence from London and more influence from our capital Dublin.

Is this post a wind up??? If not then surely the fact that your country is called The Republic of Ireland give you a clue that your not part of the United Kingdom(a Kingdom has a Monarch)!!!!!!!!!!!

If all the Irish in Brum go back home... we'd have so much more room for allowing so many more of the lovely, hard working, honest, east European immigrants we love so much...!!!

The Irish Question has perplexed governments for hundreds of years. The main problem is that some of the people want a united independent Ireland but a lot of people are implacably opposed to it and want to stay British. The partition which took place after WW1 tried to make the best compromise ,as the bulk of the Unionists being in the north and most nationalists in the south the former remained in the UK and the rest became the Republic. But in both parts there were sizeable minorities who didn't like the arrangement.Frankly there is no solution better than for everyone to live and let live.

BB? You're 100% right. You should definitely foist yourself on Dublin A suggestion..... Everyone in Northern Ireland who wishes to retain links with the current UK should be offered safe-passage to the Mainland .......and a corresponding number of folks from the UK's Irish community who dream about a UNITED IRELAND! should make the return journey. Problem solved. |

There is an independent state called the Republic of Ireland. Just exactly how independent it is within the Eurozone and touching the former British oppressors for a loan of £117bn is open to doubt, but in hard fact this is a nation state. I liked what I saw of the Irish Republic, but I wouldn't want to live there permanently. However, the option is there for anyone who would like ti be officially Irish, to relocate a few miles down the road.

The south is in hock to the British to the tune of £117bn and the province costs Britain £3m A DAY! I'm not sure wonga do loans that big. The Eirean economy couldn't take that big a debt on and not sink without trace, returning Eire to the potato famine part 2.

Fact is BB felt like starting this thread some time ago, quite some time ago, he asked my advise, and I can't recall exactly, but it was a bit of myself saying no and BB having a second think about it. It's a passionate subject for BB, and after second thought, I gave him a green light, I have too be fair too everybody here.
