True, and I've always considered her latina. But isn't it kind of a gray area here in regards to if someone is "black...as is the subject of this thread. Does Vanessa have ancestors that were black? I'd say so, yes. But do we say she's Cuban/Puerto Rican because she's from there?

For instance, if someone like Jackie Chan were born elsewhere. I mean, take the same exact person and ethnic background as Mr. Chan, but say his parents moved to Cuba from China a few years before he was born. He grows up in Cuba. Would we consider him "cuban" or even "latino"?

As I say, it's all a very gray area. Vanessa always struck me as someone very exotic. Very multi-background. Very beautiful.

Well the thing for me is that I never knew she considered herself "latino" for all the years I was watching her movies in the late 70s to the mid 80s so I just assumed she was black and puerto rican. It wasn't till later when she had stopped doing movies that I read that she thought of herself as primarily "latino". I don't have a problem with it. She has the right to identify herself however she wants to but I still recognize that she has african ancestry and when I think of black porn stars, she still automatically comes to mind.

Although Vanessa is Puerto Rican as I understand it, so many in the Caribbean, especially Cubans, have intermarried and interbred with blacks that they probably do qualify. Having spent a lot of time in the islands, there is a very fine, grey line between Latin and black. The races have merged as have the cultures in many respects. But then again, you wouldn't look at Jeannie Pepper and say she was white merely because she has Caucasian blood in her
