It's always economically based...not a moral decision. Banning CP is a great idea because personally I find it disgusting. But this is censorship despite its clothing, and from what I've found, Tumblr is using some very ineffective algorithms in determining what porn is.

From Tumblr :
"December 17th - a rescue plan Some good news, I’ve been talking to two developers now and got them working together, we just had a meeting with the guys behind an existing large (millions of users) site similar to Tumblr, with a vibrant and open-minded community, and more importantly, it has open-minded owners who believe in free speech. They think we can get something done here to rescue the whole community. I’m not allowed to reveal the site name yet. I can tell you it’s mainstream, open to everyone, open-minded and welcoming. (It’s not WordPress or any site owned by Facebook or Twitter. It’s not Pillowfort, that’s in closed beta. It’s not Ello, that’s mainly for artists. It’s not kinkspace or fetlife, those are too specialist. It’s not jux, that seems to be closed. It’s not Soup, that seems still in development and too small.) One of the reasons for delaying the announcement for next few days is they don’t want a “land grab” where people take the names of current popular Tumblr users over there (cyber squatting). So they are looking at ways for existing Tumblr users to keep the same names on the new site. More info over the days to come. The plan is, broadly: 1. By December 9th, announcement of the new site and how to secure your username there 2. By December 10th, an online tool for bloggers to copy their existing content to the new site automatically, with the same tags and captions. 3. Bloggers will need to copy their content across between December 10th and December 17th if they want to use the automatic tool. 4. My understanding is that after December 17th there will be no public access to any “flagged” posts on Tumblr, but the original poster will still be able to see the flagged post (for a short time at least). Therefore, the original poster may still be able to manually download a post to their own PC or phone, after December 17th, and manually upload it to the other site. But if you have lots of posts that will take a long time, it will be better to use the automatic tool before December 17th. Please understand that these dates are approximate and may change for technical or other reasons. There may be a few rough edges or not so perfect looking site design on the transfer tool. Everyone is doing their best. The main goal here is to help as many people as possible preserve access to their content, in the short space of time Tumblr has allowed us, and preserve as much as possible of the Tumblr community spirit somewhere new. The new site will cater for photo, GIF, text and html posts. It will not offer video and audio posts, due to cost reasons - maybe in future, but for now you will need to preserve video and audio content yourself in some other place. If your Tumblr blog has a mixture of original content and reblogs, or all reblogs, all of that can be copied over to the new site. Reblogs will become “your” original content if nobody else posted them yet, otherwise they will be shown as reblogs. The devs are looking at ways to preserve attribution of reblogs back to the original Tumblr poster, if that person also moves to the new site. Important: your Likes cannot be copied from Tumblr to the new site. You will have to go find the same posts again on the new site, and like them afresh. (Similarly, existing reblog comments, asks, messages and other user interaction on Tumblr cannot be copied to the new site - that’s just too much to do, in the short time available.) If you want to preserve any of your existing Liked posts on Tumblr, you will need to either: (1) download the post to your own PC, or: (2A) reblog it now to your own Tumblr blog, and then (2B) use the automatic tool, before December 17th, to move your whole Tumblr blog across to the new site. If you have Liked a lot of posts here on Tumblr, the gridllr.com webapp should be able to help you do steps 1 and 2A quickly, I mean download or reblog. (Someone complained to me today about the appearance of Gridllr on a phone. It’s best to use Gridllr on a PC, Mac or Tablet with a large screen.) If you have liked a post here on Tumblr and the original poster decides to delete it, or even to delete their entire blog, some time before December 17th, then that post will be permanently lost. So if you want to be sure to preserve any of your Liked posts, you should best download or reblog as soon as possible. If it’s reblogged to your own blog it is safe from deletion, at least for next few days."

^^^ They don't masturbate.
Whenever you hear about them doing something illegal that's sex related, it's they molested and/or sexually assaulted a child. That's their sexual outlet right there: closeted homosexuality involving raping boys. Look at all the churches: they are constantly preaching moral values, abstinence, marriage, criminalize homosexuality and lesbianism, and yet they are the ones who are always having a scandal for homosexual rape and molestation of altar boys. Then their pointy hat wearing leader named the Pope comes out and wave and say a few useless words and All Is Well in their church world again... ... until their next homosexual rape and molestation of altar boys scandal. Hypocrites! |

The so-called "rescue plan" for existing porn blogs on tumblr sounds great on the surface, except for one thing. Tumblr already deleted a huge portion of the content on those porn blogs. Several of the blogs that I've followed for years suddenly shrunk by over 90%. The content was deleted at almost exactly the same time that they made the announcement about no longer allowing porn.
My guess is that tumblr is trying to free up server space. The porn ban may just be a way of avoiding the cost of buying more servers. And for those who say "What's the big deal? There's so much porn on the web, who is going to miss one more porn site?" -- if you haven't explored tumblr's many unique blogs, you have no idea what you've been missing. Update: Well, it seems tumblr has restored the deleted posts. They must have gotten one helluva backlash for removing all those posts.

First time posting here/long time lurker.
I never encountered CP on Tumblr (wasn't looking for it). Tumblr was also not "all porn'. It was quite full of cultural oddities that went off the beaten path of anything regurgitated on Pinterest. It had lots of OC (original Content) going for it, as well. It basically is what you made of it, and there were those set-up accounts that specialized in what they posted and those that were eclectic (the ones I usually went for). As far as vintage stuff went, it could be amazing. Whether it was turn of the century, stuff from the 50's-70's, or old underground cartoons. The blog RetroFucking was a good one, but since the purge, they have only been posting notices telling where their new site will be. The formatting for Tumblr was far better than Pinterest or having to back arrow persistently out of a forum or anything like Reddit. You either scrolled through your feed or that of another user's reblogs, or you could scroll a compact table of archives that either you or another user collected (and could click an item to see a post). One could click music someone posted, and continue to listen to it while scrolling down past other posts. Gifs were better formatted to display as active while scrolling. Videos were set up well, and compiling a set of images or gifs in one post was not a problem. Tumblr was also quite left-leaning. It was pro-refugee, pro-LGBT, pro-feminist, pro-BLM, pro-Net Neutrality (the big burr in the saddle of Verizon-which I will get to), pro-voting, while being anti-censorship, anti-Trump, anti-Kavanaugh, anti-police brutality, etc. While Reddit can get leftist, Reddit has a notorious reputation for being very anti-religious, overly-obsessive on details, and full of shills/trolls/bots. Tumblr was more right-brained and great at capturing poetic, creative over-views of a matter, and while one could find its share of rabid atheism, there were many Christian hedonist mind-sets (yeah-no lie) there, as well. It was it's very left-brained, abstract nature that made it indelible to a lot of trolls who could never step up, and the trolls who attempted were quite sadly obvious in the predictable, repetitious stuff they posted (very Pinterest-stuff of cars, wolves, guns, only with porn images of women with ridiculously unrealistic photoshopped or fake tits), the parroted and scripted wording they used, and the same cadre of followers who were indistinguishable from each other. This recent action has been blamed on a few things: some say it's because of "decency" and to reclaim their connection to the Apple App; some say it was to remove their bad porn bot problem. For one, Pinterest has more nudity going for it than what Tumblr has been neutered to, and it is not breaking any recent internet rulings, nor is Apple excluding it. As for pornbots, they still pop-up overnight (a bot can create one in less than five minutes and sic em' on 20 users in less than a minute), and folks still get 2-3 of them in their follow notices everyday. No one wants to interact with a non-entity-especially one with suspicious links that may be written in Russian. The real grist comes down to who acquired Tumblr recently. Tumblr was a big hitter with preserving Net Neutrality. Verizon was quite opposed to Net Neutrality. Then this happened. https://www.thedailybeast.com/tumblr...izon-bought-it Ajit Pai, the currently corrupt chairman of the FCC was a big Verizon man. So, was William Barr, a former Bush man, and someone Trump wants as AG (and someone who still thinks investigating Hiliary's emails is far more important than looking into Trump's obvious ties to Russia and Putin-just to give you an idea why Trump wants him so bad). Hmmmm....two very conservative men tied to a company pushing to remove Net Neutrality that now owns a liberal enfante terrible site that pushes to preserve Net Neutrality. Do they act like obvious monsters and shut it down?....or do they hit everyone where it hurts most, and when everyone flees, do they shrug to the press and say "see all those depraved uncooperatives"? Given all the recent attacks made on media, the removal of Net Neutrality, the proliferation of Russian Trolls from Olgino, etc. this is just one further step in limiting and suppressing expression. |
