So , all go with the needs of user, in defense of Win 10 I can say that with a little tuning, you can make it less annoying (I use comodo firewall to block outgoing+adblocker on browser+custom host files+O&O Shutup10+I close the update from services(let go only once on month)), if you are not comfortable with learn new things or have to use some special software(autocad, photoshop..) or play big games, then you will go with win10, if don't need all that before, linux it is the way; at the pc repairshop, where I work, the pc I work it is dual boot linux+win 7, 99% of time I use linux, and the fun, the linux work better than win 7(I closed the update service there, to not get win 10)...from what I see at my clients, win10 it is here to stay, when a client ask me what to put to a pc, I can(from legal point of view) recommedn only win10 or linux, but most of them ar not tech savy or have a hard time to understand the tech behind, so for those, the win10 it is the way, most of them don't even know the real potential of their smartphone...

I've got two WX machines here, and I've never seen a single advertisement on either of them.

Thank you.
Sorry I could not answer sooner.

I am no expert either but I create database applications destined to work on small servers.
That makes me an enlightened user although not an expert.
My preferred machine is still running on Windows 7 which I prefer to Windows 8 or Windows 10.
But I converted another machine from Windows 7 to Windows 10, more by curiosity than need and I use it to check that the applications I create are compatible with Windows 10.

You can say I am not really fond of Microsoft and especially its methods of thugs.

So like the others above, I would say this:
- Windows 10 is not mature; there are still many imperfections;
- a Windows system (in general) is not the best system in the world;
- if you can, avoid Windows;
- linux is a far better choice;
- Apple' system (which is a variant of Linux) is better also than any version of Windows;
- one other thing I would add is this:
- you say you do banking operations with your machine;
- that is very important;
- so you must have a good anti-virus well configured;
- no anti-virus is perfect;
- the ideal would be to have 2 working together but I do not think it is possible;
- but having a good one and having it well configured would be a good solution.

Good luck.

Stops any W10 update behavior and deletes all existing W10 components. Activate the monitor mode.

Works pretty well for me.
So I installed this on my laptop running Windows 7 and after 24 hours the machine still functions and no W-10s crap

Following that lead I found there were possibly 15 reasons why an activation could be blocked. after futzing around for awhile it dawned on me that I may have used another machine for playing with Win 10.

Let me briefly explain. For lots of reasons I've become a fan of the Dell Latitude laptops. Primarily because they last and have few problems. I keep them for a while and then sell them but usually have two. One main machine and then an older backup. After thinking about it, I probably put Win 10 on an older Latitude E series that I sold several months ago.

So, given MS's current rules about how they want things done, my idea is that Win 10 was installed on a small SSD when inside an older Latitude, but that SSD was put in a newer Latitude which MS considers to be a no-no. So thats why I was only given the options of spending $200 for Win 10 or reinstalling Win 7 on that SSD and then reinstalling Win 10. Win 10 may (or may not) work after that.

If I get really bored I may try the reinstall option just for the heck of it. But I won't even consider paying the $200.

Hope that makes sense.

If you actually never really used this Windows 10 machine, except for testing, I would be interested to know what the content of the advertising is. By the way, I HATE ADS! You've supplied yet another reason to resist changing to Windows 10. If I want ads I can turn on my TV. I don't want a lot of junk chewing up memory and processor overhead on MY computers!
Most of the advertising was MS related. Have you tried this? Upgrade to MS Office for this? Sorry, I've kind of trained myself to ignore ads. But I can say most all popped up just above the bottom right hand corner except for certain situations.

Way back when (last May or June or so) I didn't want to deal with the MS store. Especially for just using the Solitaire games. So I looked around and found someone had packaged the Win 7 versions and made them downloadable. Which I did. And played those rather than deal with logging into the MS store.

This time around I couldn't find those games. My only option was to use the MS games. So I did for a while. To use any of the Solitaire games you now have to "login" to use them (can you believe it?) but if you don't "login" you see ads for other games at the login screen. And the login screen is divided into two sections with ads in both sections.

There were probably others but I just don't remember. I've swapped out to my Win 7/Linux drive now. If I feel like it (or if someone really needs more current info on the install) I'll reinstall 7 and then 10 eventually. Just now right now.

I have another question. This is not about Windows 10. I have looked on the internet to try to get an answer about what this is, but I can't get a satisfactory answer. When I am in my mail which is AOL , At startup for a fraction of a second a black box ( it almost looks like a t.v. screen ) pops up and in the upper right hand corner in uppercase letters are typed NOT SANDBOXED. It says on the internet that this is some kind of malware, but I have run all my antivirus, antimalware, and anti spyware scans. I use Avira Anti-virus, Malwarebytes, Spybot Search&Destroy, and I have also used ADWcleaner and bitdefender, and none of these can get rid of this black box. It seems to be trapped in AOL. My computer expert ( the man who originally set up my windows Vista Dell Inspiron 1545 in 2010 ) said it is probably disabled. Does anyone have any experience with this and can anyone explain what this box is, or how to get rid of it? Thanks

Could you try looking in windows startup and disable aol listed entries 1 at a time and see if gets stopped from starting up, i use cc cleaner which quickly lets a halfwit like me disable/enable without to much issue`s.

Not really the thread for this question but I did look around a bit for an answer to your question. I should say I haven't used AOL since the 80's or 90's so I'm not an expert on this subject.

From what I could find this seems to be a rare problem. I didn't find any associations between "aol" and "not sandboxed". And I looked through about five pages of results.

So, unless I was asking the wrong question, you may have a problem finding an answer. I even asked a question at the AOL site with no results.

It just occurred to me. Is AOL still using their own browser? If thats the case then you could try backing up their bookmarks and profile, do a complete uninstall and then reinstall. That may work (but probably not). Just checked and they now seem to be just another website with access to a mail page (do you ever use that entrance?) What browser are you using?

So the only suggestion I'd have is to use the web portal to access your mail. Won't help with your problem so I guess get used to it.

One last question. Have you been using a sandbox application? You could try uninstalling and re-installing that.

Otherwise, AOL may be your only hope.

Just checked a couple other things and found very little new. Most everything (even from Google) from way back in 2004 to 2006. One site came kind of close but no cigar as far as I could tell (it was on the Sandboxie forum).

Thanks LV gas and 9876543210. I also use CCLleaner and it does not get rid of the black box. I also tried getting my mail just using AOL.com and I can get it without the black box. I also tried to un-install AOL and then re-install a newer version of AOL, bu the black box still keeps showing up. I get my mail ok. That is not the point. I am afraid that this black box ( if it is malware ) might break out of AOL and get into and harm my other applications ( although ) my computer guy thinks this won't happen. He says though it keeps showing up it's activity is probably disabled. I suppose that I will just have to live with it. I will be getting a new computer before April of 2017 anyway, because that is the date that Microsoft will stop making security updates for Windows Vista which I have now on my Dell Inspiron 1545. Thanks for your help!!

Just for the hell of it, I would run Task Manager to see if anything weird was active while this is happening.
