Two teachers that I had. Mr Davidson in form four who taught me the value of trying to be a decent human being and Mr Berthleson in Form five who gave me a love of Shakespeare.
I kept in touch with them after I left school and was genuinely saddened at their funerals. Never got their names in the paper or on the TV, but unsung heroes to me. Also Peter (Captain) Kirk who owned a live music pub in the sixties and gave five kids who thought they were the next big thing in rock their first paying gigs. If there's live music venues in heaven, Captain's will be the one all the cool kids are at. |

Me too loosegoose.
I and my friends say that we are a strange mixture of Messrs B.M. and G.L. Both first class minds but contrasting characters indeed. Mr M was a classicist of the highest renown who could speak and read a number of obscure ancient languages with ease - often invited by the British Museum to help out with papyrus fragments (). Yet he was also a Cambridge blue at cricket and five times national Fives champion. He taught us rigorous thinking and to take pride in our intellects - in contrast to some of today's kids who hide their intelligence so as to avoid bullying. Strict but fair - and you could say humorous...if you ever understood the joke! Mr L on the other has was a hard-drinking, Glaswegian English teacher who got us to think outside the box, see the myths that we were being sold and challenge accepted opinion. He too loved Shakespeare - and so good was our school production of Hamlet (which he directed) a correspondent was sent by the Daily Telegraph to review it for the paper. Not often that happens. |

Stephen Leacock. To be cited as an influence by a cynical bastard like Groucho Marx means high comedic stature.
Alfred.E, Neuman........I stopped buying Mad magazine when the ludicrous shit descriptions of what we would buy in the future started to become true. For example: Impress your friends with how expensive your clothes are by having the labels sewn on the outside. |

Who is your hero?
It can be as easy as your mom dad or sibling but there are a lot of obvious ones every day.
CMM gave me this idea after she gave a homeless man twenty dollars to buy something to eat. There was a sandwich shop beside a liquor store and we debated which door he would use? He chose the sandwich shop. Well done. By the way I gave him the one hundred dollars that Kelli lost in our bet. |
