Meini - Thomas Paine was an Englishman. If he were to try to travel to the US today he probably wouldn't be allowed in.

Do they still play Gary Glitters music at US sport matches? it used to get played constantly.
I always thought this strange in a country so concerned with morality.
I think these royalties were his main income over the last 20 years. It obviously funded a few of his overseas holidays.

In the UK we have a 24-36 hour limit on keeping "suspects" without charge.
The US have "Homeland Security" where hundreds of people have been arrested and their families/lawyers ~ have no contact nor advice for months.
In Europe we don't hide un-charged prisoners in a god-forsaken-hole in Cuba. And forbid a Trial-by-Peers

Tom Paine ~ an American you need to discover mate ~ drew inspiration from the freedoms in Europe that led to your release from colonialsim.

Europe is a concord of disparat factions

~ but we are freer, safer and 2,000,000% less scared than the gated communities in the US.

Lack of Freedom ~ jeez~

In England, it's illegal to carry some types of Swiss Army knives, and people have been arrested for singing Kin-Fu Fighting, or for quoting Churchill.
Geert Wilders is going to court for "hate-speech", Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff was fined for saying Mohamed was a pedophile in Austria, and Merkel and Zukerburg of Facebook have gotten together to crack down on speech critical of her insane immigration policies.

Most of Europe has no freedom of speech, and the freedom to defend yourselves is non-existent.

Robert Spencer and Pam Geller were denied entry to the UK.

Oddly most of us don't feel the need to carry weapons, it's a concept that may not be understood across the pond but it suits us nicely thank you very much. We have had this tired old argument many times just agree to differ. See here and succeeding posts.

I would arrest someone for singing Kin-Fu fighting as it takes the piss out of a great song by Carl Douglas

See I can post it and say Kung-Fu fighting with no fear that the thought police are on my trail.

As for the story well the Police were acting on a complaint from an Oriental with no sense of humour

If he is so sensitive then they should have told him to move on and drink elsewhere - maybe at home and never to watch Benny Hill

You know, the weird thing is, I quite like baseball. When I was still at school, my auntie in Canada sent me a baseball bat from the local team in Toronto and in the summer, for some reason the teachers let me use it for sports day in the summer, instead of 'rounders'. All the young lads really enjoyed it. Made a change from cricket.

I am not aware of a ban on Swiss army knives, but what the fuck would I know about it? I only work with senior police officers every day! Funny really they do not know about it either, I just asked! The facebook thing, is about obscene and racist comments being removed, not about the comment itself, as this crap offends the majority of readers, I see it as acceptable.
You are correct that we do have a ban on certain knives, but this is only on length and flick knives. There are few legitimate reasons to walk round the streets with a hunting or kitchen knife. However, if you are a chef or butcher, our evil police will probably have a joke with you and send you on your way. If there is no reason for you to be carrying your mums kitchen knives, they might arrest you! Bastards!

Sad to say, we have some restrictions on what we can say, usually to protect the human rights of others, all to do with political correctness. Sadly our police have to act if they receive a complaint, they usually ask both parties to apologise, and that is it. Unfortunately we suffer this crap, to protect the freedom of others, and most of this crap comes from the European Union, which your President feels he has the right to take sides on. We hate that idea, and think he should mind his own business, but then we do have the right to say what we think, which has to do with the freedom of speech.

There is freedom of speech, it just isn't absolute.

While there is an overreacting "PC crowd" that tries to abuse the limitations for their own agenda, the restrictions themselves are not made with political correctness in mind.

Edit: mmm though i guess one could state that all laws of every country (or even religion) are made with political correctness in mind....

So Rupert what does one do when their freedoms infringe on yours??
