Default JULIA PERRIN -What happened to her?

Julia Perrin seems to have dropped off the face of the earth after 1982, unlike her co-star Brigitte Lahaie who is still a public figure, working in radio.

It would be great to see what she looks like these days.

Anyone know anything about her?

Probably a more accurate way to put the question is this: Of the dozens and dozens of big-name stars who populated French cinema and magazines from 1975 through the early 80s, why is Brigitte Lahaie the only one who didn’t disappear into anonymity?

Many of the stars who were omnipresent in those years have since purposefully tried to hide their “porn past” (actresses like Danielle Corneveaux and Marie-Claude Viollet went so far as to threaten EGAFD and other “indexing” sites with legal action to have their names removed; an editor of one porn site, familiar with the threatened lawsuit, suggested that Viollet had “married a very important and influential businessman”). Some continued in the Paris “sex scene” (off-camera) for years or even moved into legitimate theater (Emmanuelle Parèze), “T&A” B-movies and TV commercials (Jane Baker, Karine Gambier) before retiring. One tried a “comeback” of sorts by writing a tell-all memoir (Erika Cool) and of course some died young (Cathy Grenier, Marianne Aubert). A few still appear in person at film events or book launches (both Nicole Segaud and Marilyn Jess attended the publisher’s launch of Richard Allan’s memoir some years ago). But the many, many others who seemed to be everywhere back in the ‘80s (Cathy Menard, Martine Semo, Carole Pierrac, Flore Sollier, Catherine Gentil, Danielle Troeger France Lomay, Laura Miles, Sigried Cellier, Denise Lascene, Marianne Flowers, Daniele Azzalini, Veronique Maugarski, etc etc etc), have “disappeared into the crowd” without a trace.
In many cases (as Erika Cool states in her memoir mentioned above) these girls were either Parisian-area hookers or escorts (or “artist models”, which is sometimes the same thing...) or impoverished students, who were making some extra cash in movies and magazines that could only be viewed or purchased (back in those days) in specialty “adult” cinemas and shops. They never could imagine that, 40 years later, their “past” would reappear on the internet. Some were smart enough to use fake names (even several fake names) but many of them used their real name. Most of them will have since married, raised a family, by now have grandchildren, and are probably mortified that, by simply googling their name, their past resurfaces. As the jacket copy of Cool’s memoir states, “35 years after her last porn movie, Erika Cool is still haunted by her past. Although she is already over age 60, and is making a new career as the director of a real estate agency, she is still a 'femme fatale' for many. You only have to google her to see the images and photos from her previous life.”

So—assuming Perrin is still alive and well, as we all hope—she has probably tried very hard to “put her porn past behind her” and disappear from discovery.

I imagine the same "mortification" can be said of many American "stars" in the late 70s and into the 80s that are nervous their grandchild might type in the wrong clue on the web. btw How did Marianne Aubert die young?

Since Europeans have a generally much more relaxed and less judgmental attitude about such things, I would think their situations are much better than American stars, since there is so much hypocrisy rampant here. Harmony Rose, for instance, left the adult business, moved to Blacksburg, VA, took and passed all the classes to be an EMT, and was driven from the job she wanted by people who recognized her, had no doubt spilled many loads over her, and dared call her immoral. Same thing happened to a girl who was doing porn to pay her way through Duke University. Some fratboy recognized her and let the school know, and she was kicked out.

Drug overdose, while still in her 20s (same fate as Cathy Grenier aka Stewart). Aubert had been the girlfriend of pornstar Jean Pierre Armand and he wrote a very touching tribute to her on a French blog site about 20 years ago. He mentioned that he still kept in touch with her mother, sending her a card in remembrance every year.

In general you're quite right -- one example for all, Illona Staller aka Cicciolina who went on to serve 4 years in the Italian parliament ! -- and for another, Eva Henger who transitioned from a porn career to hosting an Italian TV show… for children!! And even today, Silvia Bianco (who made some seriously raunchy movies) has "rebranded" herself as a vegan chef who regularly participates at family-friendly cooking events. Of course, every once in a while some impish journalist asks her "How do you reconcile a vegan diet with swallowing semen?"

But on the other hand, recall that in the wild and experimental 1970s many porn films pushed the limit of experimentation, including scat, underage porn (the above mentioned Corneveaux appeared in a photo set from 1980 or so, holding the hand of an very young girl while blowing Gabriel Pontello) and beastiality (although she denies it today, Marina Hedman shot several movies where she pleasured her pet dog, and Denise Dior specialized in farm animals). Those sorts of things have been outlawed even in Europe these days, and anyone who was involved would certainly want to distance themselves from them at all costs.

Going over some old info I had, I notice that one French-forum contributor (back in 2005) claimed that her overdose death may have been intentional: « A propos des suicides dans le porno […] la mort incertaine de Marianne Aubert par overdose peut-être pas accidentelle »

J.P. Armand had written that Aubert (who he had dated for 3 years) “had begun leading a very unhappy life, running around with people who had no respect for her and who dragged her into the world of drugs.”

According to Jacques Zimmers, author of "Le Cinéma X" (Paris, La Musardine, 2002), Aubert was “the sister of a famous mainstream French actor” (though he doesn’t specify who that actor was).

I agree that Europeans are much more relaxed regarding adult films, the French in particular.

My understanding is that the Alpha France films are considered ‘Art films ‘ and part of French culture which probably goes some way to understanding why Brigitte Lahaie embraces her work during the golden age of porn and has a radio show giving sex and relationship advice.

According to IMDB, Julia Perrin performed under no less then 14 different names during her relatively short career: Isabelle Forestier, Marie Lou, Virginie Marie-Lou, Marie-Loup, Mary-Loup, Maryline, Marylène. Bianca Moor, Aude Moore, Bianca Moore, Julia Browning, Julia Perrein and Julia Perrier.

I wonder if the use of different names was an attempt to hide her identity during the three years that she worked from 1979 to 1982 appearing in around 20 films, along with magazine shoots for Mayfair, Fiesta, Extra International and Playmen? She was born in 1961 so was only 21 when she ‘retired’and one of the last mentions of her on the internet is that she won Miss Europe Nude in 1981, representing Andorra.

My hypothesis is that the evidence points to a girl who worked for a very short time with the intention of making her money and then getting out completely.

During her very short career, she did her best to avoid recognition in the future by working under 14 different names (which is a lot over 3 years). Little did she know that the all-seeing, all-knowing internet would be invented.

I think you're quite right. Indeed, think of al the "one-time wonders" that populate porn and never reappear. These were just people who needed to raise some quick cash, but didn't intend to do more than that. Also, whereas the actresses didn't make all that much from the films (it was the producers who cashed in), appearing in movies and magazines raised their fan-profile so they could draw bigger crowds to strip clubs and such. Hyapatia Lee (and others) have said they earned far more at their dance gigs, than from the movies.

Another attraction to working for Alpha France (and producers like "Private" etc): they were still making big-budget films in those years before VCRs and the internet ruined everything, and the cast travelled to great locations like Ibiza, the coasts of Spain and Greece, Mediterranean islands, all expense-paid and chauffer-driven and lavishly catered. AND with the chance to meet wealthy sugar daddies. who would buy them jewelry and fine clothes. What 20-year old woman (whose other job prospects might be as a cashier at a department store) would turn that down, while her looks lasted?

In cases like this it often leads to the well known Streisand effect: "The Streisand effect is a phenomenon whereby an attempt to hide, remove, or censor a piece of information has the unintended consequence of publicizing the information more widely, usually facilitated by the Internet. It is an example of psychological reactance, wherein once people are aware that some information is being kept from them, their motivation to access and spread it is increased."

Isn't that the case like Cicciolina and the horse? That wasn't her in the movie but it was Denise Dior and Cicciolina even clarified it in a documentary. I'm not familiar with all of Hedman's movies, but in those 80's italian classics afaik she did not do anything like that (but someone else). Still, as I said, I'm not familiar with all her movies, so possibly someone can prove me wrong.
