Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines. They just don't make films like that any more.

Le deuxième souffle (1966)
Trailer Gustave "Gu" Minda (Lino Ventura) is an old school gangster with a large reputation. Serving a ten-year term for a train heist, Minda manages to break out of prison along with two other inmates and heads straight to Paris where his sister Manouche (Christine Fabréga) lives. Manouche is in a restaurant owned by her admirer Jacques "the Lawyer" (Raymond Loyer) when a couple of gunmen walk in, killing Jacques. They were sent by club owner Jo Ricci (Marcel Bozzuffi) who then orders the men to capture Manouche at her house. But the thugs are surprised by Gu who drives them out of town to kill them in his own typical way. Preparing to get smuggled out to Italy via Marseille, Gu is offered one last job by Jo Ricci's brother Paul (Raymond Pellegrin) which he, being broke, accepts. Noir doesn't get better than this. This is Jean-Pierre Melville's last film shot in black and white and it's not your average noir. Le deuxième souffle is two and a half hours long and offers plot twists that will blow your mind. |

Numerous inserts of studio set-pieces of current "celebs and/or names" in various markets. Nope... a really hard-nosed, pre-planned "Studio-Enterprise" Thank God they don't make Films like that anymore.....where Agents connive.... Having 'ranted'... I will say I loved it It was put together well, was cohesive, given the amount of "Agent-Input" ~ not as good as the most infamous 'agent-driven-film' "It's a Mad, Mad,Mad World" ~ imo ~ which started this era. ........................... I'm watching "Father Goose".... again.....goes without saying I suppose. I like Cary Grant running like a girl, unable to take off his shoes ~ like me ~ Leslie's legs, and all the kids allowed to develop their characters, rather than being like the "Sound of Music" zombies. Other than Star Wars 1V...(original) ,,,FG prob the most watched film by myself and family... we all love it.... up there with "It's a Wonderfull Life" |

"The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai: Across the 8th Dimension." One of my all-time faves and one of the best and most underrated sci-fi adventure movies ever made.

Aquaman (2018)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1477834/ Another megabudget, noisy, bloated, repetitious, protracted, gigantic CGI overload of a comic book based movie: all visual with no substance !! By the time the: "You have to be King. But I don't want to be King. My home is on land. It's your destiny. Only you can unite the kingdoms. Save Atlantis" speech and lecture were repeated for the gazillion times in the first hour of the film, I wanted to strangle someone and throw everything AND the kitchen sink at the screen. 2/5 Last edited by Reclaimedwg; January 25th, 2019 at 12:43 AM.. |
