Here's three for you:
The Last Waltz - The farewell concert by The Band along with a load of their friends (a huge chunk of rock history in one gig). Stop Making Sense - Talking Heads (the best opening ever) Live Rust - Neil Young (a classisc) All 3 have great DVD's as well. |

A really good DVD is Iron Maiden: Flight 666 The Movie. You get a 113 minute documentary on the first disc (with concert footage) of the Somewhere Back In Time World Tour, in which the band played 23 concerts in 45 days. On the second disc is basically a full live concert, made up of 16 songs from 16 countries and edited into a live video. Excellent!

I like a lot of the stuff that was already mentioned. I really like progressive rock so two of my favorites for live were Genesis - Seconds Out
and Peter Gabriel - Plays Live I don't think any of the Grateful Dead's live albums are as good as some of the bootlegs I'v heard. (btw sorry about splitting up this post, still getting the hang of things) Last edited by Flotsam; March 21st, 2011 at 03:40 PM.. |

Now that I can't find it in my CD bins I've been wanting all the more to watch & listen to the Cowboy Junkies live DVD/CD done in Liverpool. The video and sound (at least as well as I can hear which isn't much) quality is fantastic.
But a warning to those of you not familiar with them - they're extremely low key, slow, and unenergetic (only one of them remains standing throughout the Liverpool show). For me the main attraction is the great tense-ness in their sound that comes from playing this way. Lots of live clips of them on youtube but I could only find this one from Liverpool, a cover of George Harrison's Isn't It A Pity that closes out the show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LmOdKXrM0Y
