DepositFiles presents executable instead of download files

I've tried to download a couple of movie clips that others have kindly shared via DepositFiles.

For example, I tried to download a clip of Samantha Strong's "Erotika", from post 151 (page 16) in her thread. There is an active link, that leads here:

On that page, I can see that the original download file is a compressed file, SS-E.rar. I choose the regular download, and get a popup dialog window, as expected. But instead of the expected filename, I see this:



(the number appears to be a unique sequence number generated in this process).

I repeated this exercise with another movie clip, this time, a Chelsea Blue clip, from post 10 on page 1 of her page. That one leads here:

Clicking the regular download opens this dialog:



I ran a couple of passes to test this and see if the behavior duplicates itself. In some passes, that dialog popup was drawn incorrectly, with the file name incomplete.

All of this makes me think that DepositFiles may have been compromised. Naturally, I did not click to download these files. But I thought I'd bring this up to the community, in case anyone else has seen this, or if not, as a heads-up.

I apologize if this thread is a duplicate of an existing one, but I did a search on "depositfiles" and found no existing thread that dealt with this.

You ignored and deleted any pop-ups, right? (because the correct download link will appear on the page you were on, not on the pop up page)

Download Button Trickery - the .exe is usually the filehosts download manager

Hosts like rapidgator would try it once per link and then a 2nd time with an unticked / ticked option under the download button

Their .exe version was labelled as malware at one stage

The advice is always the same - If it ends in .EXE cancel start again

PS the no slots avilable for free users due to ad-blocker is just a ruse

As long as cloudfare is allowed that message disappears
- just tested with cloudfare allowed via script safe on chrome
- my adblocker was paused

Yes, I ignored/closed any popups other than the dialog to proceed with the download. That dialog only presented the .exe, though, not the .rar, and I did not choose to download it.

This never happened to me before. I wonder if it's a function of the browser. I'm running Firefox 67.0; I wonder if they broke something in one of the latest updates. I'll try Chrome, which is the other browser I use.

You mean the dialog to proceed that you clicked was in a pop-up too?

if so, you should ignore that one too and just stay on (or return to) the page you were on, the 'real' proceed dialog will appear there, sometimes it can take some seconds.

I doubt it's Firefox (i use FF too), but some of these download sites do that downloader .exe pop-up stuff (with usually download managers, like Buttsie mentioned), or make it at least unclear where to find the correct buttons. Though they're always there.

My rule of thumb is to always click away all pop-up windows and only proceed on the original tab or window i was on.

No, I didn't click anything but the "Regular Download" button. That produced the popups I showed above. Since they showed the file name for an executable, I did not proceed, but closed those popups. This is the first time in using any of these download sites that I have ever seen this behavior, including on DepositFiles. That's why I posted this thread, to alert the rest of the community, in case something is wrong.

I will try again, though, and see whether anything else presents itself, after that popup.

OK, I just tried the first link now, and it works as I expected. When I clicked Regular Download, I did not get the popup I got yesterday, but instead, was presented with the captcha in the page. I answered the captcha, then got another button to download, and got the dialog with the .rar file name in it.

Something was definitely up on this page yesterday. Very suspicious.
