When did top shelf move to sex shop?
I'm new to this brilliant forum. I was amazed to see that the content of magazines which I remember being top shelf in the petrol station had started showing soft boy girl pictorials and then moved to full hardcore.
It would seem that the changes happened in the late 90's but where did they sell these magazines? How did I miss this??

Definitely around 1999. So called sex shops would sell you over priced crap in a plain wrapper with no actual hardcore, their vids were even worse. Not surprisingly many "sex" shops have survived here in Manchester

The "top shelf" moved to the sex shop when the mom-and-pop bookstores all closed because Amazon stole their niche. Gas stations just plain stopped selling magazines altogether.

Some brave souls took the shops to court under the Trades Descriptions Act, but not many!
