Magazine covers: eyes on stalks

For me, it has to be the first magazine I ever bought as a teenager. I was shaking like a leaf when it came to buying it and did the trick of slipping it between two other magazines to try and hide it from view!

I was taken by the girl in the top left really as the cover girl was obscured by other magazines, but one I got it off the shelf and saw Jenny, I just had to have it!







New Talent became my "must buy" magazine for years after this. I've still got some issues somewhere, but ones like this issie have sadly died through over use and fallen apart.

Talk about eyes on stalks and a cover that blew me away.

I remember walking into the newsagent, I always tried to have a surreptitious scan of the top shelf, see what was new, see if there was anything worth buying. Mid-scan my eyes were drawn to this magazine:



Here was my wife, a photograph I had taken as the main cover shot! I had no idea that she was going to appear like that, no idea even that the pics were going to be printed! Jackie had been in other mags and had one or two very small cover appearances, but nothing like this. I nearly came in my pants! It's always a thrill seeing her in the magazines, but her 1st full page cover shot was a whole new level

Bermon. Although I guess I'm a lot older than you I think I can understand why 'New Talent' became your 'must buy'.



I've not seen a copy for a few years, my top shelf purchases having mostly stopped around 2007 after I discovered forums like VEF and came to rely on those for my every day wank-fodder and additionally made late forays into video and into vintage sets and and new to me hardcore sets of favourite models bus from my wanking-youth in the 80s and early 90s, the Andrea Clarke s, Solange Hops and Vida Garman's I I used to exercise my wrist to. But if I my bought a traditional top shelf mag, I often would buy a copy of New Talent or one of its sister magazines in the 'galaxy' stable (I think another one was called 'Ravers'. They had something going for them that 'Escort' and 'Razzle' had going for them when they were relaunched in the early 80s (well before your time I expect): the girls were usually not top flight girly models but they all looked fun, up for a laugh and gave you the impression from their photo sets that if you met them in real life if they would be up for a shag. New talent and all also had the similar approach to the rear launched razzle and Escort that' they were happy to show the girls with their twats on show or even a bit open and with the cheeks well spread to show their arseholes, acknowledging that's plenty of us wankers wants to see a bit of pink & of brown without going in for the full "butchers counter" display of some of the ultra explicit girlies. I knew that if I fancied a reliable girly mag and a wank overgirls showing the lot but at a a reasonable price, 'new talent' and it's sister galaxy fanny Mags were well worth my dosh and a reliable good wank. I can see one issue, probably from around 2000 that had an unsubtle I use but truly eyes on stalks cover of a girl in SG uniform that passerby noticed keeping out of my bag and commented on. If I can find it in the appropriate thread here I'll come back and post a link to it.

These covers take me back to being a teen in the 90s. Going into WHSmith's with your mates nudging each other to look up at the top shelf with eyes on stalks for a second or two, pretending to browse through a magazine but really taking a handful of glances at the top shelf and then walking out with massive grins on our faces.

For lovers of the top shelf, in the heyday of printed porn, there always seemed to be something to enjoy over the Festive Season.

Like the cover of this issue of Mayfair, featuring Kirsten Imrie (thanks to the OP).

Just the sight of a pretty girl in a Santa costume, ready to strip out of it, was enough to get me going.

Back then too, the New Year calendars were also on sale, sometimes with a selection of 'glamour' offerings. I remember two guys in my local WHSmith, laughing as they enjoyed a calendar photo of a young lady in high heels and black stockings, posing as a school mistress. Funnily enough, I'd spotted that one just a moment before!

I got rid of a few porn mags once by leaving them in a locker in my gym in north London. It gave me a small thrill to imagine that they would give another guy a bit of a thrill. Wonder who the lucky chap was? Wonder if he took them home to enjoy them...?

One of my all-time favourite covers, featuring Tracey West.

I’ve never really been into big-titted girls, but this was a great picture of Tracey, in a classic over-the-shoulder pose - as if to say “come on in, guys” – showing her stocking tops, suspender belt and a*se. Just what I liked in a mag.

Such a big photo, it really stood out in the shop. As the publishers no doubt intended.

And all the better as Tracey was, according to Mayfair, just 19 at the time. I seem to get a special turn-on from 18-19 year old models, posing for photos, while earning many times the hourly rate I ever got.
