Morgan Freeman apologises after sex harassment claims
US film star Morgan Freeman has apologised following allegations of sexual misconduct made by eight women and several other people.
One production assistant accused Freeman of harassing her for months during filming of bank robbery comedy Going in Style, CNN reported. She said the 80-year-old touched her repeatedly, tried to lift her skirt and asked if she was wearing underwear. Freeman apologised to "anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected". "Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy," he said in a statement. Making women feel uncomfortable was "never my intent", he said. He is the latest well-known Hollywood figure to be accused of sexual misconduct after allegations of sex attacks by producer Harvey Weinstein led to the development of the #MeToo campaign against sexual harassment. Apparently they get promoted to the big nick at twenty one, this is probably to protect them from bad influences! I hope she does not live long enough to start shaving!

Regarding the arson case above, my ex has the misfortune of being housed by the same housing association that housed the victims and she and her neighbours have been harrassed, intimidated and threatened since 2014 by a couple of young drug dealers also housed by that same housing association.
The local police have given my ex and her neighbours a lot of support but harassment and slyly conducted drug-dealing are very hard for them to substantiate with clear evidence. The local police on the QT place the blame with the housing association's policies of favouring scumbags over decent tenants (my words not theirs) and of having a policy of 'not making people homeless' which in effect means there is in the end no final sanction against the scumbag tenants ie they aren't evicted. Part of the reason I've not been active at VEF much this last few years is that I've been spending a lot of time supporting my ex in coping with the drug-dealers and even more so with fighting the housing association. I'm glad to see these murdering arsonists sent down for a long stretch but I'm very aware of the culpability of the housing association in protecting scum tenants and treating decent tenants as if they are the criminals. I noted in the newspaper reports on the verdict yesterday that the Housing Association denied that the mother in the case, who the local police confirm had contacted them repeatedly, had ever contacted the housing association to ask to be helped to move away from the arsonists although the mother said she had approached them. I've been supporting my ex through her troubles with her neighbours and know that this particular housing association tells outright lies, to the degree that the local police have advised us to conduct all our interactions with the housing association by email or face to face with a recording device running so that the housing association don't have deniability. The arsonists are the killers in this very recent case but in my opinion the victims' god-awful housing association were complicit in the deaths at least in as far as contributory negligence.

Changing the subject, and I know there is a cycling thread, but! Chris Froome took one of the three great races apart yesterday, winning a mountain stage by three minutes, and destroying the field, getting into the leaders jersey with the chance of being only the third man in history to win all three of the top tours in a calendar year.
The race teams, with out exception, and the riders are all praising one of the greatest rides in the history of the sport. The world press are doing the same, the British press, tell of the event, and then go on in the second paragraph, to talk about his on going drugs case, did he use steroids? Did he use any other performance enhancing drug? Nope he had too much residue from his prescribed inhaler, he is asthmatic, and he is fighting the case tooth and nail. But hey, why allow the Worlds greatest tour rider to celebrate? After all this is the British Press! Frome has never received the public recognition his achievements deserve, Bradley Wiggins was knighted for winning the Tour de France, helped by Frome, who by the way has only won it four times, he also won the Spanish equivalent and is in the lead of the Italian one today. Good I bet he wishes he was French! |

A well-known journalist was recently arrested and sentenced to jail for trying to cover the trials of some child sex-traffickers, against the will of the local regime. I won't mention his name or the country that is imprisoning journalists because the country in which this happened has placed a publication ban on the entire fiasco, in the name of sex-criminal security, er, I mean national security.
Here's a hint: it ain't Turkey or North Korea.

Don't know if any of you experienced last night's thunderstorm but holy crap! I've never seen it hail at night, chucking it down as well and the sky was lit up with the incredible lightning show put on. The hail was so loud and came down so quick it felt the windows might break(but takes more than that to crack double-glazing) and the whole house shook. Luckily I wasn't upstairs in the attic but I am pretty sure it would have been noisy.
I got my computer back finally although along with a new screen(reconditioned from a school) it cost me £455 but he did throw in a new keyboard(on order) and a laser mouse and later he came over to fix my printer and scanner. Most noticeable up here in the attic-how humid it feels even though there is a breeze outside and just now heard some more rumbles of thunder. Hell of another Bank Holiday but hopefully getting cooler next week.

Speaking as a former newspaper journalist, magazine editor and a fairly well known author, I'm certainly not willing to accept that someone like Tommy Robinson is a legitimate reporter and there are plenty of rules you stick to if you don't want to run into trouble. |
