Default Never seen it till now

Gorillas in the Mist

10/10

An older film I'm guessing most of you have seen, I recorded it this afternoon and had not ever seen it till just this past few hours. Glad I did see it, If there's one thing I like in any movie is an honest story, though I don't know how much of the film is accurate, I don't care, entertaining from start too finish with a few heartbreaking scenes.

7.8 rating is about right.

Default Marathon man (1976)

Just bought this for £2.99 from HMV.......

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074860/?ref_=sr_1

......an old favourite I haven't seen for a long time. A great cast who all give fine performances, a tense well thought out plot.....and the 'dentist' scene will put you off having your teeth checked for years

.....Oh, and Marthe Keller topless of course

IMDB gives it a lowly 7.6.......I'd give it a 9.0

Just watched Kind Hearts and Coronets for the umpteenth time. Amazing that this film, apparently so free of conventional morality, should not only have been made, but been successful, in the Britain of 1949; perhaps it tapped into the egalitarian mood that brought about the welfare state.

It's an unusual exploration of the English class system, in the form of a black comedy about an Edwardian serial killer. The story is told in flashback, by the ninth Duke of Chalfont, writing his memoirs in his prison cell, the night before he is to be executed for murder. We learn how he was raised in (relative) poverty after his mother was disowned by her aristocratic family and how, in revenge, he methodically eliminated those members of it standing between him and his current title. What makes the film a classic is Dennis Prices' voice-over; its dry, epigrammatic wit keeps at bay the reality of his actions as he slaughters his way through the succession. It's the perspective of a psychopath, rendered in the most elegant of prose. The deaths themselves, except perhaps the last, are understated, mostly off-screen, as if they were something that a true gentlemen shouldn't pay too much attention to.

'I deprecated their retiring so early, but it was hard to blame them, for weekends, like life, are short.'

Alec Guinness plays eight roles as his hydra-headed victim

and Valerie Hobson and Joan Greenwood (whose plummy voice reminds me of Felicity Kendal) are his good and bad angels respectively.

'While I never admired Edith as much as when I was with Sibella, I never longed for Sibella as much as when I was with Edith.'
