Yes.

I was still single.

I was still fornicating and going to strip clubs and modeling studios.

I just met my wife through a friend who I couldn't stand at the time and wouldn't even take her out on a date.

I had no kids.

I could stay up all night playing video games on my Sony Playstation 1 and 2.

Sleep until 5 pm on Saturday and Sundays, my days off.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Yeah...the critics and true blue Queen heads slammed it. And, yeah...it's your garden variety quasi-factual rock dramamentary. But I enjoyed it, even with all of its flaws. Being a casual fan of the rock band itself, watching the film brought back memories of junior high and owning the original 45 of the titular song. Plus, there was a melancholy draw to the way Rami Malek played the talented but often tilted Freddie Mercury. The cast is composed of mostly younger stars who collectively performed well. Also featured was Mike Myers hidden well behind the mask as Ray Foster, a record company executive. Bryan Singer directed the film just as one would expect...like Bryan Singer. But, argumentation over facts aside, this IS entertainment. And the LiveAid scene at the end was not only well-reproduced, but touching in a way only forgiveness and fandom can reproduce. B-

a good film , and a horrific waste of life at the end -

Bought my ticket in Advance for the screening in Edinburgh Cinema
the FILMHOUSE next weekend of OUTLAW KING

" A true David v Goliath story of how the great 14th Century Scottish 'Outlaw King' Robert The Bruce used cunning and bravery to defeat and repel the much larger and better equipped occupying English army. "

I will write a review once I have seen it , should be better than viewing it on a TV Screen when it gets released on Netfix on November 9th !
Note the Final Battle is Loudon Hill , not Bannockburn , so another film at least will get made

Halloween 5 - The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)
Underrated entry in the series but not great.
Official trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPwAtB65dCs
Really good fan trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvTjz_LXvPo

Spoilers...

Cons/Nitpicks...
- The bumbling cop duo & the silly quirky music that accompany them are grating (but thankfully don't have much screen time and don't share any with the much cooler and more competent Sheriff Meeker)
- In general it's just generic more of the same-ness from 4 but not as well executed.
- Why didn't Loomis or the swat guys find the bodies in the attic before the trap was set?
- Myers has his knife in this position perpetually towards the end of the film and it seems kinda cheesy, like the outstretched arms the Universal monsters used to do but worse.

Missed opportunities...
- Not doing much with the twist at the end of 4.
- Killing off Rachel really early.

Mixed Elements...
- Donald, Harris, Starr & Cornell like 4 still make for a solid cast, altho sadly many of them don't get much to do compared to 4.
- Harris is still great but her performance is limited somewhat by not being able to speak for much of the film. (altho this adds to the audiences sympathy for her)
- This is Pleasence's most unhinged performance as Loomis and yet simultaneously the actor himself seems tired/worn out while in 4 it seemed like only the character was such (appropriately).
- Many find Tina annoying, I personally like her. Her interaction with Jamie is very sweet.
- 5's mask still isn't particularly good but is much better then the mask in 4.
- How Myers survived 4 is reasonable and doesn't resort to the preposterous like Resurrection (although why the hermit nursed him back to health instead of taking him to a hospital is never explained)
- Kills in the barn are solid even if they feel more Jason-ish then Myers, Myers using a scythe is cool.

- The mostly off screen shootout in the police station at the end is abrupt and mysterious but part of me wished they showed it, we already had a completely off screen police station massacre in 4.
The shootout was filmed as seen in this BTS image but cut for whatever reason.

Pros...
- The more gothic redesign of the Myer's house is suitably cool & menacing.
- The entire end sting operation, chase scene through the house & Loomis's trap for Myers is all great & suspenseful.
- Film is pretty surprisingly brutal to a child character, Jamie gets bruised & scraped up severely.
- The moment of Jamie cornered in the attic and accepting her fate and crawling into the casket is daaarrrk.
- Tina unknowingly in the car with Myers is suspenseful.
- As is Myers trying to chase Jamie down with the car & Tina's sacrifice.
- Score is solid.

BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY

The legendary British rock band Queen, finally hits the big screen after having 2 directors....original star walking away from the film......script changes.....

PRAISE :Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury/Farrokh Bulsara, lead vocalist of the rock band Queen really did his homework here.He is able to nail down the mannerisms and moves of Mercury and even striking a couple of emotional chords in me with his performance. He will likely receive a few award nominations for his performance.
As his bandmates and friends Gwilym Lee as Brian May, Queen lead guitarist,Ben Hardy as Roger Taylor, Queen drummer Joseph Mazzello as John Deacon, Queen bass guitarist also capabley channel them and their movements.
The musical performances are also on point for the most part.
I have read articles and watched documentaries about Queen over the years and the film nails most of the things about them, especially Mercury's relationship with Mary Austin(Lucy Boynton)
I know some critics and movie goers are upset that the film doesnt go dark enough and we dont get to the behind the closed door of Mercury's personal life at full throttle but it's a PG-13 film and IMO i feel enough about his homosexual life style ,flamboyance and his dealing with the discovery he had AIDS was displayed in the film.

PROBLEMS: Some of Mercury's dealings and chafing against his band members is kind of sugar coated and glossed over. There are some alterations to Queens history in the screenplay i didnt like.
There were projects that Mercury really dedicated himself to that were not in the film that i would have liked to have seen.I would have liked to have seen more of that than drawn out scenes of him dealing with a shady lover.
Some of the lip-syncing was a bit off.

BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY is not a perfect biopic but with everything that went on behind the scenes IMO it's a coherent, rousing and moving film for the most part.

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

Mile 22

IMDB
YouTube Trailer

An elite American intelligence officer, aided by a top-secret tactical command unit, tries to smuggle a mysterious police officer with sensitive information out of the country.

Wow!
I'm still speechless while reading to the many bad reviews this blast of a movie received. Mile 22 is just simply awesome. 94mn of edge-of-your-seat action, some memorable performances from Wahlberg, Uwais, Malkovich & Cohan, a story that immediatly catches your attention and grips to you until the end...talking 'bout the end, I'll give another wow! Never saw it coming! And it still haunts me hours after I've finished to watch the film.

Mile 22 is relentless, merciless, violent, dark, bloody...it hurts is characters. There's absolutely no comfort zone in here. There's no time to shred some tears neither. haven't seen an action flick that memorable for a while.

And some critics who think Peter Berg glorifies the US are totally wrong. There no good guys and bad guys in this situation. What you have are people doing their job, even if it's a really dirty job. Mark Wahlberg's character named Silva is the perfect example. He's no lovable hero. He's an asshole. The villain is an asshole. The team member played by Lauren Cohan is a bitch sometimes too. They're to do something. They might don't even believe in what they do. They just have to.

And there's also this terrifying notion of absence of safety. Nowadays technologies are so powerful that the fight is witnessed by operatives behind their computers. It's a man Vs machine combat, even if the machines can be lured and betrayed.

21% on Rotten Tomatoes? C'mon! That's nonsense! Mile 22 is easily one the best films of the year! And this ending! This ending! Gosh...

Big Grin Oh dear , Yorkshire council used public money to fund

This ,

Tired old tale of a lone astronaut facing sooner than soon imminent deadly death. With his only companion being the delusionary optimistic voice from somebody too sodding far away to help.
Nope not spoiling.
As within fifteen minutes the director has crazily told us the various trials our hero must combat . Plus also the bloody way he`ll die. Once he`s beaten the trials and made it to the twee trite (Long before already telegraphed) ending.

Much as I personally like and highly rate both actors involved (Steven Oggcan / Alice Lowe). They`re given bugger all to sink their teeth into. Instead being reduced to making the uphill shoeless hike during a howling hurricane best of it here.
So only award this

Along with the hopes Carl Strathie is never allowed to cluelessly direct in the future , and yawing through the numbers screenplays aren't ever read let alone green lite again.

Halloween The Curse of Michael Myers (1995) - Producer's cut in full for the first time and re watched much of the theatrical cut afterwards for comparison.

Full spoilers...

- While like 5's mask the neck here is still a little too large the rest of the mask is a big improvement over 4-5 & h20.
- Anyone who dislike Myers's conflicted behavior and tears in 5 should be pleased with his absolute zero hesitation in killing Jamie in ether version of this film.
- I am not sure which version of Jamie's death I prefer. The weak stabbing & hospital assassination of the PC seems anti climatic for the character, but the farm implement shredding of the TC seems too mean spirited & brutal for a character we spent the last 2 films watching as a desperate sympathetic child.
- Seeing Loomis happy and almost at peace during his 1st scene is very nice and a big change of pace from the way we have always seen him up to this point in the franchise. This early sequence with him & Dr.Wynn is a longer and better in the PC. (the film could definitely use more of their interaction & Wynn in general however)
- The TC stupidly cuts out Loomis's reaction to finding Jamie.
- Rudd is decent here, he gets a few sweet moment with Jamie's baby but overall is fairly emotionless (purposefully).
- There are a few moments towards the end of the TC were Rudd gets to show more emotion then in the PC, moments were he is clearly petrified and can't do anything but semi chuckle in despair.
- Marianne Hagan as Kara Strode is a likeable very sympathetic and motherly final girl.
- General editing in the PC is vastly better, the TC uses a very lame, very 90s style of showing abrupt harsh flashes of gruesome images jarringly between shots. Pace of the PC is slower and feels alot more franchise appropriate.
- The lighting is better in the PC.
- Some absolutely beautiful shots throughout the film such as the long hallway shots inside Smith's grove or the final snot of Myers leaving the Asylum wearing the stolen Man in Black suit. (Would have liked to have seen a sequel with him wearing such + the mask of course)

- Scores are different, both are good but the PC has a more classical version of the theme & utilizes it's score better overall.
- The PC's handling of the cult and explaining their goals/motives is VASTLY superior to the TC, PC they rightfully stick purely to the supernatural & handles such with reasonable subtlety, the TC tries to make it about mad science & doesn't explain it barely at all.
- Scenes showing the connective tissue between 5's ending and this film are cut out of the TC.
- The operating room massacre is cool I guess but there is no reason given in the TC's story as to why Myers would turn on the cult out of the blue with nothing at all triggering that turn. Nor is it shown who/what the cult doctors were operating on when Myers interrupted.
- The TC's cut of John's death with his head exploding is ludicrous.
- Myers "defeat" by magic runes in the PC while not flashy or epic at all is a lot more believable and natural to the story up to that point then TC's defeat by having skinny ass Paul Rudd beat him with a pipe, regardless of what poisons Rudd pumped him full of before the beating.
- Ending fate's for Loomis there is no comparison, the TC is a absolute insult to Pleasence, ending the film with his off screen screams without explanation. The PC gives him a cruel but poetically appropriate ending.
- That said It's never explained why Wynn was giving up his position as Myer's handler (a throwaway line about him having cancer or something would have sufficed) nor why he would choose Loomis who is obviously older and more frail then him.

Overall, the TC is a absolutely pathetic butchering of the PC which IMO is a full on good film. Makes me wonder what is missing from Hellraiser Bloodlines which I have heard was similarly edited to hell by the same company.
