lost password
somehow i DLed T-E_V-D_G-S_vol.2_-_scene_5_-_Heather_Hunter.part1.rar and part2 either via the board or via google direct.
when it came time to unzip it, it asked for a PW, and darned if i can even figure out where the clips came from! google points me at all these rapidshare intermediaries, etc., but none with the human-like TEXT needed to find a PW nearby. i've manually looked through her thread here for any sort of "vol 2 scene 5" as well, but no luck. seriously, i thought EVERY LAST GOOGLE HIT would have the PW, but so far i can't even find ONE. any suggestions? |

This is the only one that I could find-
Password: Jasmin-4-U Re: any suggestions? Yes, use caution on "rapidshare intermediaries". They usually don't list passwords, and this can be exploited to lure you to a poisoned site in search of one. Good luck. |

Yep, that did the trick!
Frankly, I thought that googling the filename would point me IMMEDIATELY back here. Or to a similar board I also frequent. Now I'm not really sure HOW I found that file. But I'll take your security tips under advisement for the future. Cheers |

Problem extracting RAR files requiring password
It seems that each time I download a set of RAR files that require a password, winrar fails to notify me to enter a password when I attempt to extract the files. Instead I get a diagnostic message from WinRar that states "Unexpected end of archive" when I try to extract. I don't have any problems on RAR archives that are not password protected. Dunno what I'm doing wrong, but would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

I use a freeware 7zip. Enter the password and it does the rest. If you download files that require a password the poster will supply that pass. Always enter the password first.

So, I should be entering the password when I download a RAR archive, not when I extract. I would have thought that the download would not have started if a password was required upfront. Thanks, I give it a try.

No, sorry, my fault. Once you have downloaded the RAR files and proceed to extract them enter the password.

just to be sure with your problem - have you ever used the password which is usually given with the post of a password protected file?

This is from the winrar help file:
"When extracting encrypted files, it is not necessary to enter the password before starting the operation, though you may do so. If a password was not entered before extraction and WinRAR encounters an encrypted file, the password will be requested from the user." So you can input the password first somehow but I never have, it always gives me a pop-up as the un-raring starts and asks for the password. Sounds like a glitch in the program. You may try to re-install winrar or try to fiqure out how to input the password first. Probably by opening the winrar console and navigating to the rar file you want and then looking for options to give a password. Good luck and let us know how it goes. |

Hos says: "...have you ever used the password which is usually given with the post of a password protected file?"
The quick answer is no, because I have never been prompted for one, either when downloading or extracting an archive. I think this is my problem. As Star notes, I must either have a glitch in the winrar program, or I need to use the winrar console to force the option of inputting a password. I think I'll give the latter a try. Thanks to you all for your helpful suggestions. I'll let you know if it works. |
