Default question about subscribing to threads

Sorry folks, I did use the search facility - but there was nothing there despite several search attempts.

So, thank you for opening this one.

My question is about subscription to individual threads. What is the use of this function?

And how do I subscribe to a thread?

Many thanks in advance & sorry for being a pain in the ass (if I am?) with all these questions.

Kiwi

It is useful, it means you are taken to new posts in your favourite threads staight away (via User CP) without having to search through all the pages, plus it means you don't miss any. But beware that if you post to a thread you are automatically subscribed to that thread (at least I seem to be) so you can end up subscribed to quite a few that you may not want to be!

This is one of the options you can set. Go to 'User CP', then along the left side click on 'Edit Options'. On that screen under 'Messaging & Notification' is a section titled 'Default Thread Subscription Mode'. Use the pulldown menu there to set if you want to automatically subscribe or not and what level of notification you want.

And by the way Kiwi, maybe your questions wouldn't be so bloody if you stopped stabbing them first.

Is there a way to organize your subscribed threads?

Having been a member for awhile, I've now got hundreds of threads that I'm subscribed to, and like to be updated on. However, it's become a bit unruly, and difficult to sift through.

And, as we all know, there are some topics that are very interesting, but other topics that are HUGELY interesting, even important (to me). Is there any way to "rank" them, or to set up folders for them (ie, Top Ten, Fairly Essential, Darn Good, Mildly Interesting, etc.)?

Default subscribed threads

herbsmith,
I've never done this myself for subscribed threads,
but I can lead you to roughly the right spot.

go to your "User CP".
on the left side, look for "Subscribed Threads".
below that, click on "Edit Folders".
then go to "Add New Folders".
name a Folder what you want, and "Save Folders".
then I think you should be able to organize your subscribed threads.

like I said, I've never done it. but that appears to be the way.
good luck!

Thanks ballyhoo. I've tried that before, but the threads and folders are 2 separate entities; thus, when the thread is updated, it doesn't go to the folder, but just to the massive list of your subscribed threads.
