I actually quite like people dying early.

People live too long. We weren't meant to live past 70, so our bodies have this genetic predisposition to absorb fat and store it in our arteries, especially the arteries in the heart and brain which eventually may lead to a horrible death(heart attack or brain embolism).

In the past people didn't get so fat, but their life expectancy was much lower because they had no viral or bacterial vaccinations that we have now. Our more advanced medical technology allows people who would have died in their 70's to live to 90 and above. Seniors now make up a little over 13% of the U.S. population. By 2060 it will be 20%. Tooooooooooooo many people!

It's also arguable that, if it weren't for those who have the tendency to store a lot of fat, the human race could have died out in times of extreme deprivation and hunger - such as the ice ages.

So it is a survival trait that has become redundant in modern times of plenty.

Once upon a time fat people were our saviours.
