How is VEF going to comply with the Digital Economy Act?

In short VEF must in the near future, the exact date is to be announced, verify the ages of all UK users as being over 18 before allowing access. If it does not, the BBFC will instruct any company that allows VEF to function to cease that service and instruct all UK ISPs to block VEF.

The Digital Economy Act 2017 demands any site that allows access to 18 or R18 porn to make sure that any who sees it is 18 or over. The BBFC is the body that will oversee this. The exact date of implementation has yet to be announced.

VEF doesn't actually host any of the content. Every picture, thumbnail and video is hosted elsewhere. I would think that the responsibility of assuring that it does not fall into underage hands would fall upon the hosting companies. That's where the content resides. Having said that, it will be interesting to see how they intend to actually enforce this within the UK when the Internet is a truly global entity. Perhaps the UK can just be cutoff from the net entirely. Given the recent Brexit vote it seems that the Brits are comfortable with that model.

That's not what was said. It's about certifying British citizens who visit adult sites are over 18 years of age. Right or wrong any country can block any website within their borders.
