A roof, heat and food. Not a cardboard box under a flyover. The balancing act is changing jobs to get more fulfilment.

I don't see a problem with going for the lower paying job. As long as you have your plum position here with the company car, hookers, and wining and dining on your VEF expense account you have nothing to lose!

Most of our lives, my wife and I lived, if not on struggle street, then prudently. With four kids, we both had to work bloody long hours and there never seemed to be a surfeit of cash for anything other than providing the necessities with an occasional, small, taste of the good life. Then some years ago a wealthy rellie left her a sizeable inheritance.
What I have learnt from that, is that as far as money goes, provided the other sides of your life are good, ie your health, your relationships, a lot of it brings you a definite absence of anxiety. |

If you find a way to not sacrifice yourself for the man, go for it! It's a human instinct to want freedom. I used to earn more in a week than most folks earned in a month. Was I happy? No. I spent my whole life working. My late Grandfather did the same. Then retired, spent a few years enjoying himself then popped his clogs. He could have retired 20 years earlier. He was fooled into this "you gotta work ethic" balls! Get out of the rat race as soon as you can.

I agree with that, but I would add the rider that you must carefully think about your retirement. Having the odd day off from work is one thing, having every day of the rest of you life off is something else entirely and requires much intelligent thought and planning.
