Default Julian Assange - Right or Wrong?

I'm interested to know how anyone else on the VEF views Julian Assange and recent developments?

Was he right to pass on so many of America's nasty little secrets, which must have caused substantial embarassment in Washington?

Are the sexual assault charges simply trumped-up to get him to Sweden and is the UK's response to him seeking refuge in Ecuador's embassy justified or completely out of order?

What would be the consequences of him being detained by the Americans and taken to somewhere like Guantamo Bay?

I absolutely love the way that the left-leaning press in the UK licked Assange's arse, found out he was a serial pervert, and just kept on licking.
Eat sh*t you....
Actually I don't know what to call you.
That sums up Assange.
Not conducive to British Democracy.
Ecuador?
If you want him, have him.
Good riddance.

He, like "Anonymous" chooses targets with a suspiciously leftist bent.
Assange is not about outing necessary truths.
He is about making a name for himself with one end of the political spectrum.

The simple fact is that we cannot possibly know. I'm sure there will be people who have managed to convince themselves one way or the other, but that's not based on any knowledge, it's just a desire to see a particular outcome. I desperately hope those people never end up on a jury if that's how they judge a criminal case!

It would be extremely disturbing if the charges were trumped-up. However, in my opinion, it would be equally disturbing if we reached the point where anyone who is seen to be some sort of "hero of the people" is immune from the process of law.

Justified. Assange has been charged in Sweden and we have an extradition treaty with Sweden. The British authorities have absolutely no right to prejudge the case, declare Assange innocent, and fail to carry out our legal responsibilities should he leave the Ecuadorian embassy. If it was the other way round, we would take a pretty dim view of Sweden if it's authorities didn't arrest someone who was accused of committing a crime in the UK.

Not a hero but a spineless coward. If he had faced the consequences of his actions one could argue he is a hero but when he doesn't face the consequences, he is a coward.

It would be interesting if the English attacked the Embassy, because this would legitimize the capture of the US Embassy in Teheran some years ago. Even more interesting, because the English give exactly the same reason as the Iranians - namely that the Embassy is hiding a criminal

And if you think further, this could mean that nearly any Embassy in any country could be legally attacked. Why? - because so many of them routinely conduct espionage, a criminal activity almost wherever you are

Does the English PM really want to be called 'Ajatollah Cameron'? If so, his embassies had better start burning their secret papers, because other countries will notice and may follow his example

From what I've read, he is wanted for questioning, and has not been charged. Who says he has been charged?

If the British Government didn't storm the Libyan Embassy after a Libyan diplomat shot and killed PC Yvonne Fletcher,They're hardly going to do it now to arrest a suspected pervert.IMHO Assange has to go to Sweden to face these charges,I'd imagine Sweden would be far less likely to hand Him over to US authorities than We would.
