Back in the 1990ies, I heard you could only settle in Australia if you come with your family. You get a house, free English classes for 6 months, a job, your kids get free books for school etc. I doubt this is still possible nowdays.

From people who left for Australia. This was supported by Australian policy for whatever reason. Why would anyone want to live there anyway?

You used to be able to go there for £10

But it cost £120 if you wanted to come back

Default The sydney funnel web spider - deadliest of them all

As seen through the eyes of 2 british Comedians Mel Smith & Griff Rhys Jones

Re: Peter Parker visits Australia?
I saw the words "funnel-web spider" and flashed back to an Alas Smith and Jones sketch:

"The most dangerous one is the Sydney Funnyweb. D'you know where it lives?"

"Where?"

"In the khazi"

"What? Most dangerousest spider known to man lives in...?"

"Lives in the khazi, mate. And o' course there you are, you come in, you drop your kecks and sit down and SNAP!"

"Snap?"

"SNAP!!"

"What, on your...?"

"Bang on your billabong. And from then, the ol' todger swells up to four times its normal size."

"Blimey!"

"Yeah. And you've only got five minutes to live. Well, it's a big decision, innit?"

"Is it?"

"Yeah, I mean - do you spend those five minutes running around screaming and trying to find medical attention, or do you throw on your posing pouch and parade down Bondi beach hoping to go out in a blaze of glory?"

My Aunt and Uncle emigrated to New Zealand in 1972, my uncle worked in a biscuit factory. Then He applied for a job in Australia as a bank clerk. We didn't find out to years later that they were so skint they lived in a caravan for years. I think my Aunt was worried what my grandparents might think. My Granda never liked them emigrating. The "troubles" were raging here in Ireland. I don't blame them for moving downunder. My cousins were only infants. They grew up in Australia and have the aussie accent. My aunt has a weird mix of Irish and Aussie, my uncle has never lost his accent. I found Australia a fabulous place. And would recommend you visit. But i'm a home bird. I love Ireland and won't leave. My brother lives in Berlin and he's staying. But someone has to keep the home fires burning!
It's a long journey to Australia! The first time I flew the whole way. The Plane BA stopped in singapore, and I had to wait for two hours for the quantas flight to Brisbane. I sat on the roof of singapore airport in a pub. I ordered a pint of carlsberg-it went hot in two minutes The heat was incredible. Thank god you aussies have aircon or BB would have died!!
