Australia is safe for now, you lucky devils!
My parents brought the family over from mediocre Britain back in the sixties when dad could no longer find jobs as a printer.
It is a decision I have never regretted them making. I have had an excellent life over here, nine years in the Navy, full employment almost my entire life. It is now only with failing health that I am now unemployed. still no regrets.

I don't complain about the heat itself, I just hate what it can cause,
Though I do hate it when it gets a little too humid, last night and a rare one, actually had the air con running when in bed, normally if it's too hot or humid we just have the ceiling fans running, but last night was ridiculous.

But the heat itself does cause the idiots to leave kids or pets in a car bit hard on the elderly, my Mum is 83 and has never bothered her until the last 2 or 3 summers, but the big one, bushfires

What I like about Australians is their overall rejection of predatory capitalism as practiced in the US. It's a classic example of a mixed economy. It appears that Bill Shorten of the Australian Labor Party is on his way to victory. Australians understand that services that make up the life blood of a functioning society are not for sale and that their country is not a shopping mall. That's why their cities are beautiful and rank in top positions on lists of cities with high living standards. I guess their climate is the least thing to worry about.

My one and only comment,
Labor, for me maybe it's always 50/50
Shorten = 100% snake, asshole, untrustworthy.

Maybe and he does look and act like an asshole, from what I've seen, but it appears that people don't care so much about his public behaviour and scandals. That's an exception in a time when politicians are more concerned about their public image than politics.

I don't know if this link will work
https://www.heraldsun.com.au/blogs/a...7f8103995acd18

If it don't, type, Shorten, Cleanevent, Union into Google and have a look at the calibre of individual he is , when he was a Union Official

Nice Bloke Trading away workers entitlements to benefit the union itself, not the worker

Type in Pie shop also along with Shorten

There is much much more.

As we often say in America "It's a good place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live here"!.
Some of us have a reason to complain about hot summers. Melbourne and Geelong don't get as hot as we do 200 kilometres north. The Great dividing range often blocks the cool change the coast gets and we bake and bake and bake. Since Sunday it's been 41C, 40C, 44C, 44C, 40C and today was cold at 38C. Everyday since Xmas has been 36C+ pretty much. It gets worse as you move North of here. We don't get a break unless it's a decent cool change that can negate the mountain range.

Oh and Darwin isn't hot and dry. It's humid as it's tropical up there.

I agree...I don't think people are complaining about the heat in itself, just what it causes....like feeling hot.

Today, 231 years ago, Australia was founded with the arrival of the first Europeans on the First Fleet, most of them convicts.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Fleet

Many folks don't know this but most of the ancestors of Europeans in Australia were convicts - Australia begin as a British penal colony.
