I think the first porn I saw via computer was just a gif file of Sydney Moon flashing her tits that someone emailed me. I shortly after used the search term "busty" and got a Honey Moons and Tabitha Towers g/g set - and that led to Dani Ashe's site. Its been all downhill from there....

Yes, I remember the old newsgroups. alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.spanking was my fav. But I found them very difficult to access. And I agree with burpman, in the early days we had never heard of spam or viruses!

There was a service much later on (circa late 90s) called Supernews which automatically decoded for you. It was great and it lasted for several years. The biggest problem with the feeds - at least in the old days - was that the sequence chunks would arrive out of order and/or some portions would arrive much, much later. ABPE I believe existed as far back as the very early 90s or even late 80s but for the first scanned material I believe the BBS world preceded even Usenet by several years.

Supernews is still around.

My friend is the one who told me about the internet and he knew all about Usenet. I installed a newsreader almost first thing, and access was included with my ISP. It took all night or longer to download a scene.

My main interest is spanking so I remember I searched simply "spanking" and was amazed at what I found. That was way back in the early nineties so there was far, far less than nowadays, but there was still some fascinating stuff, especially stories.

There were nice pictures too of course but the resolution was poor and they took a long time to download.

However, I was doing this on a borrowed computer that I had to return. I just assumed that all record of my browsing disappeared when I turned off the machine. Of course now we know better. I have often wondered what the girl I borrowed the computer from must have thought if she had a look at my history.
My interests were spanking as well, so my initial searches were for spanking as well. Then I discovered Usenet and ABPES* which provided a lot of images in the early days - it is pretty rubbish now. In the early days (for me late 80's) downloading images over a 28Kbit modem took ages and video, forget it.

Being naturally stingy, I have always looked for free porn on the internet, rather than signing up to a pay site. This makes it harder to find what you want, but the chase is more interesting, and, perhaps, rather like the pre-internet era.

*APBES = Alt.Binary.Pictures.Erotica.Spanking on Usenet

I m a late-comer to Internet porn, really only found it in the last few years. Looked a little in the 90s and it was all pay sites and gave up. Also, having a computer of my own and not having to share a search history and living alone have made it easier to look when I need to.

I remember it well...probably 1997 or 1998...I had seen a playboy video where a very cute blonde was pretending to be a secretary who set up a birthday party at a strip club and they called her up on stage to thank her and convinced her to strip...I was able to catch her name, and used yahoo to search for her....and when this pic (yes, this exact pic) showed up and I learned she was a porn star I was hooked. Like others said, usenet groups were awesome back then.

I remember very well that color television and remote control in our country had just arrived in the new 1990s. we went to a lot more cinema just playing porn movies. According to foreign films, there was a lot of interest in domestic porn movies. The 90's led to the explosion at the cinema. There are only a few criminals left for 2000. movie economy collapsed due to internet

Man, my first internet porn image, now that takes me back...and it wasn't THAT long ago, either.

Probably 1996, and it was just pics of various Playboy models contemporary to that mid-1990s period. Back when it was Netscape or AOL with the dial-up modem. With a Compaq hard drive in the mid 1990s as I recall.

The first site I recall finding that specialized in strictly porn that I had decent connectivity with was Smutgremlins, which I stumbled upon in either 1999 or 2000. Again, it was all just pics I looked at, as the type of dial up modem I had and the Hewlett Packard hard drive I had really wasn't all that great with video clips (they took forever to load, were very stuttery when they played the video). There were two other sites in that early 2000s period I also recall looking at a lot, but I can't remember what they were now.

It really wasn't until about 2007 when I finally converted to high speed cable based broadband that I had the necessary hardware to play clips well. And by then there were enough free porn clip sites around and the clips were getting longer, rather than a minute or so.

But I am old enough to remember when one had to actually go to an adult bookstore to get hardcore porn, or get it mailed to you via ordering it out of a porn mag you bought at a convenience store. I only went to the old-timey adult theaters twice, once in the late 1980s and once in the early 1990s. I'm talking actual, stand-alone adult theaters and not merely watching clips in a booth in the back of an adult bookstore. Neither of those visits to the theaters were particularly pleasant: literally a bunch of guys in a darkened theater trying to discretely jack off.

To be sure, the internet changed the way people view hardcore porn. It certainly changed the production and distribution of hardcore porn. I've been living in the same area for nearly twenty years now. There were maybe upwards of a dozen adult bookstores in the area when I got here twenty years ago. The smaller ones not part of a franchise chain have slowly folded up and closed, and even the chain retail ones have gradually seen the amount of dvds they carry dwindle significantly, and most of the in-store inventory places their emphasis on clothing, accessories (dildos, French ticklers, etc) and the like: because who needs to go to an adult bookstore to buy hardcore porn in dvd form anymore? Even if you WANT a dvd, there are tons of sites where you can order it online and get it delivered directly to your house.

Some of the BBS scans were appearing on usenet as well and during its very early days the feeds were free of junk. spam and viruses. The only hassle with decoding was sometimes chunks of encoded data would be missing which meant you might get a third or only half of an image. Very frustrating. But even with the decoding hassles, there was plenty of great stuff to be had in its very early days.
I still have a lot of stuff I got from usenet. I still download videos from there.
