I think you will find that Britain was a rural idyll before the Industrial Revolution hence the cricket and 'country bumpkins' as you call them-it was only when the industrialist came along that this quiet existence changed forever-but don't also forget there were people around who went around to try and destroy machines-they were the Luddites(named after their leader Ned Ludd) and most mills churned out fabrics and materials by hand before machines took over and sent some to the workhouses as they lost their jobs to looms etc.

How the hell could you find all that naff?-what the bloody hell did you expect to happen-we knew we weren't going to match Beijing so it was set up to show all aspects of Britain and although some were missing-as outlined in my last post-I thought it was amazing, as did one of my friends, working at the Media Centre and he is not given to making rash comments like "You HAVE to watch/see this" as he was privileged to see the rehearsals. Places like America, Australia and France were all very impressed so if you found it naff, I don't know what you were watching.

Wendigo-I don't remember hearing Portsmouth, but I did wonder why they played In Dulce Jubilo, which I associate with cold Decembers leading up to Christmas rather than the heat of a July evening!

Foreshadowing, because that's how everyone will be dressed when the bills come in for this over hyped track meet.

At one time there was no extravagant opening/closing ceremonies. It was about one thing, sport. Now it is a sickening cash cow. I could think of a lot of better ways to spend 27 million pounds.

Indeed it was but it was supposed to represent the 'green and pleasant land' of the song 'Jerusalem' which also mentions the 'dark, satanic mills' and the coming of the Industrial Revolution, represented by those chimneys, and Sir Kenneth Branagh as Isambard Kingdom Brunel. There was a bit of artistic licence as there weren't any black people til later in the century-certainly no black cricketers or industrialists.

I just twigged, whilst watching the BBC News Channel that the chap that doubled for Her Majesty last night Gary Connery, was I think the same chap that jumped from a helicopter earlier this year and glided in on wings, hitting a landing strip of cardboard boxes at over 50mph. I suppose he was the obvious person to do it being so fearless. No idea who doubled for Daniel Craig.

'Jerusalem' is a song about England, not the UK. Why is it called 'team GB?' when it should be called 'team UK?'

"United Kingdom Of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" is what it says on my passport. So I suppose UK or GB are equally correct.
