A little personal story goes along with this lovely poster of Ruth, which was sold via mail order in Soldier Of Fortune magazine back in the mid 1980s. I bought this very poster at an army surplus store in Illinois, USA in 1986 and hung it on my closet door. When I left for Army basic training a year later, my bugfuck-crazy girlfriend took the poster down and destroyed it. Finding a replacement copy took me 20 years.

After literally YEARS of scouring ebay, surplus stores, etc, I basically gave up. I even wrote and emailed Ruth Guerri--no response. One day, I got a Delta Press catalog in the mail, and although they didn't have Ruth in their catalog, something about the Delta Press logo clicked. I called Delta Press in Arkansas circa 2006 and was routed to a seriously mean, cantankerous warehouse guy. He was none too pleasant about doing it, but he allowed that he knew where ONE copy of the poster was in the shipping area and he would sell it to me.

When I got the poster, the indicia in the margin showed that it was produced by Rick Meoli Studio in St Louis and a phone number was included! Hoping to snag a second copy, outtakes, or a digital file of the poster, I called the number and got an outrageously bitchy woman who confimed they'd produced the Ruth poster in the 80s, but no further copies were available there. Since the poster had a copyright imprint, I was sure the photographer just HAD to have at least a negative somewhere, but the cunty phone shrew wouldn't budge an inch. She suggested that I go look in army surplus stores some more, to which I replied, "hey, what a great idea. I hadn't thought of that. That makes a lot more sense than tracking down the original creator and owner of the image. I see why you have this job."

So, thus was my odyssey. I still dont have a good digital copy of this shot. What an experience it must have been to be on set the day this was taken--Ruth was in absolute peak beauty.

Also, from the Pompeo Posar NSS. In the last picture she looks considerably younger than we are used to. The waited 5 years (!!) after testing her before she was made a PM.
