I might be in danger of diverting this topic a little from that originally intended, so apologies in advance.

"Who makes a film a must see?"

Okay, film buff on this thread aside, it tends to be the publicity departments of studios with massive budgets for bullshit, using devious methods.

Some will place huge numbers of professionally written fake reviews online, which often glorify total crap. They will carefully cut video previews to look exciting and pretend that all sorts of information about a new movie has been leaked or released without permission. High profile actors will appear on ever TV or radio chat show possible.

Without naming any particular big budget films, it's hard to avoid thinking that some press critics have been treated to a massive dose of hospitality at the film company's expense. The reviews are glowing, but the film turns out to be rubbish.

Of course, there are good films out there, but I would suggest the quality stuff is well outnumbered by the average, or not very good. Even when big names play the leading parts, this is never a guarantee that the film is actually worth watching.

Nevertheless, subtle sales tactics are used and there was once a time when record companies did routine deals with radio disc jockies.

There is so much money involved in the entertainment industry, the public are constantly encouraged to spend money on these products.

Just one film can bring in millions and accountants run the studios, not creative enthusiasts.

and any film that is a War Film ( looking forward to Dunkirk next month )

and if Charles Bronson was in it .......
