Just Girls magazine - goodbye?

I know the PRP empire is in the process of being trimmed down (change of publisher, a slightly lower quality paper stock etc.), but I have a quick question for those of you who might still be getting your porn in printed form.

For the last twenty-odd years I have bought Club International - my grot of choice since when I was in my late teens - but in 2006 I picked up a copy of JG and liked what I saw: a few of the models I had seen in Club, but the best of the rest.

Last month I purchased Vol. 28 No. 9, and after having my initial cursory browse noticed that there was no "coming next month" page. I thought nothing of it at the time, and simply expected No. 10 to turn up on my newsie's top shelf early this month.

Nada.

I kept checking back periodically, and two weeks after what would have been the issue date Vol. 28 No. 9 was still up on the shelf. I then asked the guy what the situation was, but he was just as clueless as me and said that it was on his order list.

I just checked at a couple of other newsagents this morning (making use of a day of work in scouting for porn, as you do) and found last month's mag still sitting on the shelves.

In some of the "specials" there is a subscription form at the back, with illustrations of all the PRP stable mags. While you can still see JG on the actual order form (which has probably not been updated), there is no illustration of JG on this page on Mayfair's Lingerie Special #6, which was published on the 5th of August 2010. There is an illustration at the back of The Best of Club #14 however, which was published on 28th July.

So... Putting two and two together and not making five... I think Just Girls has sadly been pulled.

I buy mayfair/club/mens world & men only. The quality has went down hill. The paper is crap. I do buy just girls now and again, but it's just a compilation of the other mags. Not many newsagents bother selling girlie mags anymore. The internet has taken over.

I wish I still had my Club International Magazines from the early 80's.How used to love that magazine.Also while I lived in Los Angeles I used frequnt Circus Of Books in Silverlake and buy Mayfair on a regular basis.The town where I live now here Virginia nobody carries it.I still buy Hustler,Taboo and Buttman magazines.

Yep, the quality has certainly gone down since they changed printer/supplier. Even Club now has this cheapish feel that one could always notice on lower quality non-PRP mags.

I bought JG as it provided the best of the other mags I wouldn't otherwise have bought - Mayfair has too many big tits for me, while MO and MW now have too much of a fake tit quota. What's also slightly disappointing is that under the new editor tattoos have started to creep back into Club, and the regular girl has massive fake mams.

I am keeping up my Club collection - only this weekend I was comparing recent issues to those from twenty years ago - but I am getting the feeling that I may call it a day at Vol. 40.

I actually had an email published about tattoos, but I too complained about the poor paper quality and got nothing back. I think we might be slowly seeing the end of an institution.

When they cant move enough units they change the title to try and generate interest
They've been doing that for eons

You only need look at the older magazines on magazine sites to see every type of magazine has a used by date...parade,whitehouse etc...the more I go through the magazine sites and see magazines that lasted for a handful of issues any magazine that lasts years is doing more than OK

You only need compare how many sets turn up again and again through the same owners stable of magazines to know their trying to do it on the cheap

One thing I don't understand is the DVDs they give with the mags. If you buy it from a newsagents it costs an extra £1 or something. The DVDs are crap because they are not R18. What's the bloody point when you can go online and watch the hardcore version for nothing?

Buttsie - yep, having bought Club for the past twenty-one years the mag has seen a few changes in looking for a particular demographic. It was probably top of the range between 1989 and 1997, but took a dive between 1998 and 2001 as the editors desperately tried to chase the Lads' Mag generation - forgetting that fact that many older readers - I speak for myself here - were just not interested in what chicks got up in nightclub toilets.

In 2002 under the stewardship of Matt Berry things went up again, as a clear emphasis was based on Club's reputation for churning out the sweetest and most natural models. This was confirmed by the fact that there were very few fake-titted girls, and no tattoos - to the point where girls known to have tattoos were airbrushed (Natasha Marley, Annetta Keys to name but two). It was the content around 2003 that encouraged me to start buying the mag again on a monthly basis.

The first issue under the new ed saw a sneaky tattoo - and elicited by sending in an email which was actually published in the mag. I am only guessing that other readers much like tats and fake tits, as they have started to appear again. Moreover - as I said in an earlier post - the regular girl now is Sasha, who was fine with her little natural boobies but utterly hideous with what is now a massive set of balloons. Fine for MW and MO, but Club? From the natural and stunning Sophie Moone to that? It just happens to be that the content is just about passing muster - in addition to the fact that I am now actually collecting the magazine. Or else I might have finally given up on it.

Billy - I hear you about the DVDs. They stick an extra quid on, and what you see for the most part is softcore shit. OK, the ones with Sophie Moone are OK, but when you can just head elsewhere and download the full uncut stuff you have to conclude that they are fleecing readers with what can only be described as "shit DVD tax".

If you google broadband take-up in the UK you'll still find about 12 million arent even online
so in all likelyhood will have no idea of how hard the dvd might be so offering a softcore shite dvd with a mag does what putting sex in the title of soft 18 videos featuring big name models like charmaine sinclair,natasha lester etc used to do....tease that leads to an impulse buy...they make an extra pound...probably sell umpteen extra copies because it catches the eye of those not online..I'd suspect many who probably dont buy magazines could be tempted with a dvd offer,once.

At least their not as bad as all the send away shite dodgy dave and his mates used to peddle
even if they are softcore
