Default When and Why ? ...did pubic hair become BAD?

Nowadays it seems that pubic hair (for women and increasingly for men) has become BAD, ugly, dirty, etc, etc and it's removal (except for maybe a small strip or patch) has become necessary for a woman to be attractive. I'm 56 years old and I'm trying to figure out WHEN and especially WHY this happened.

This forum celebrates erotica from the days when this was not so. Back in the day, pubic hair was very much a part of the attraction of looking at erotica. Remember the phrase "full frontal nudity" and the fact that pubic hair was first shown in PLAYBOY around 1971? It was taken for granted that women's pubic hair was sexually attractive and anyone who shaved was weird and kinky. This is why most women shaved their "bikini line" in those days. Showing this hair in public was just too much, rather like clothing that exposed the nipples. My wife (51) confirms this in that she has never shaved her bush, but always edged the bikini line because showing this hair in public was TOO revealing.

Somewhere around the late 80s into the 90s, swimsuit styles became cut higher and higher in the leg. The bikini line moved further in and women had to shave more and more. The full V shrank to a rectangle.

By around 2000 or so the lower cut swimsuits started coming back in, so I assumed bushy triangles would make a comeback. I was amazed and astounded to find that suddenly pubic hair was ugly, dirty, gross, etc, etc. and had to be removed even if the only ones who saw it were your intimate partners and your doctor.

What happened??????

Did the current advocates of shaving invent oral sex and personal hygiene?
Were we just dirty and ignorant before?
Were men unwilling to go down on bushy babes?
Did women never orgasm because they weren't sensitive enough?

I think you will find it was more a fashion thing started by the Brazilians, who more than likely didn't like wisps of hair poking out of their bikinis OR perhaps it was more a hygiene thing-OR even sex was a lot better without the hair. I don't like the bald or brazilian myself-if that had been around during the page 3 era the excitement of finding a picture of one completely naked would have been diminished alot.

And of course, most pornstars-men and women-favour the shaved look as it enables the viewer to see more of the action.

It never became 'BAD' for me. I love a bit of bush.

When ever it was ....it was a VERY sad day.

Theres nothing more erotic than running you're fingers through a lady'e pubic hair ... . A woman should treasure her pubic hair just like she does the hair on her head . It's a sign of her femininity. I dont get the hygene argument .If you're hair gets dirty just wash it . As an example you dont shave you're head just because you're hair will get dirty .

Cheers ...

ive had a far mixture of both camps, from the shaved to the max to the furriest little jungle you ever seen. in my genuine experience, the one who waxed weekly was the only girl to have what i could class a "hygiene" problem... The one girl who had a bush the size of pluto showered daily and was a joy to bury your face in, day or night oh and she eventually had the armpits to match, not once did i ever recall any issue there.... almost exactly the same kinda story, a girl i lived with at uni was a armpit shaving nut, a real girly girl, but at the end of the evening, you could not sit close to her as she again had an issue.

lucky i still have plenty of pics and vids of my lovely bush queen who i speak to still almost daily
edit: a quick screencap of her

What I want to know is how it came out of fashion?

Was an e-mail sent to all women saying, "OK girls, trim it?"

Women's magazines do not usually feature full frontal nudity as a matter of course.
A mild search did not bring up any medical report in the "Women's Health" section of Cosmo.

The porn industry does not have that much sway over normal fashion so who told everyone it was time to cut the foliage???

I'm afraid it's never coming back in style. And what a shame that is. Nowadays, girls practically don't even know they have pubics or how it looks (or could look) on them, because they start shaving the moment they see any kind of hair growing (on that note, I can't wait for the freakish bold look to kick in). They look at pubic hair as something that is gross and dirty and I really doubt that's gonna change.
Thankfully, there's still some women out there who realize what is sexy and erotic and sensual. And God bless those ladies.

Anyone ever think about why evolution has not eliminated pubic hair. I have heard that it is to collect and hold the scent that helps to stimulate desire.

Dante, while what you say about young girls is largely true. I think I see a faint glimmer of hope in that keeping the pubes is starting to be seen as a declaration of independence and marking a woman as not a slave to fashion. This is a small but encouraging shift from just being seen as backward and out-of-it if you didn't shave.
