Jean Elizabeth Spangler was born in Seattle, Washington, USA. She graduated from Franklin High School in Los Angeles in 1941 and started working as a model for a local clothing firm (different times ... models weren't 'stars' in those days). She had been taking dance lessons since childhood and this allowed her to become a dancer with the 'Earl Carroll Theatre', which was a nightclub.

She married actor Dexter Benner, and had one child in 1944 ... this marriage ended badly in 1946, and they fought a bitter court battle regarding the custody of their young daughter. Benner publically accused Spangler of being an "unfit mother," and the sensational headlines in the local papers gave her more name recognition than she had gotten for her budding movie career.

It dragged on for several years and ended in 1948, when, ruling a daughter's place is with her mother, a judge awarded full custody to Jean. However although described as good looking, sultry and statuesque, she struggled to make it as an actress; she was a bit player and unaccredited extra in movies and early television shows. In 1949, she worked as an extra/bit part on the set of the Kirk Douglas vehicle 'Young Man of Music', which was released in 1950.

Oops And Mystery:

On Friday evening on the 7th of October 1949, when she was reportedly 3 months pregnant, she disappeared having last been seen near her Park LaBrea area apartment.

An unsigned note was found in her purse that read: "Kirk, Can't wait any longer. Going to see Dr. Scott. It will work best this way while mother is away." All the police found was her purse and this cryptic note ... she had vanished without a trace. The police investigators found her 'little black dating book' after she disappeared, and there were a lot of prominent names in it that were not released (the studios were very powerful in the 40's and 50's).

The working police hypothesis was that she was pregnant by this 'Kirk', and that she was going to have an abortion from this Dr Scott (abortion being illegal, this was also assumed to be a false name), and that something went tragically wrong.

The then married Kirk Douglas, contacted the police after her disappearance and denied any personal involvement with Miss Spangler .. they had never had an affair and he knew her only slightly through being on set. He was questioned twice but police were apparently satisfied, especially as he was in Palm Springs when she disappeared.

Her remarried ex-husband, who now had another chance for custody of their child, was interviewed (Spangler's sister-in-law recalled that on that fateful final Friday evening, Spangler said she was going to meet with Benner to discuss overdue child support), but was supported by his new wife when he said they hadn't seen her ... he moved to Florida shortly afterwards

Shortly before her disappearance, Spangler had been seen partying in Las Vegas with two local hoodlums named Frank Niccoli and Davey Ogul, henchman for LA mob boss Mickey Cohen. They both also disappeared two days later and like her, they were never found. In particular a customs agent in El Paso, Texas reported seeing 'Ogul', and a woman who 'looked like Spangler', in a hotel in El Paso, where a hotel clerk identified Spangler from a photograph, but this was never verified. Its been speculated that they were all possibly silenced in a mob killing ...

The columnist Louella Parsons offered a $1,000 reward for information concerning Spangler's disappearance or location and although 'sightings' were claimed, no evidence surfaced. Her disappearance is still considered an "open case" by LAPD's cold case unit.

Part mystery and part oops for this lady .... an unmarried pregnancy would have been a scandal that finished any hope a career, and could have ruined the lover as well, if he had been famous and or married. But there are plenty of theories apart from death after a failed abortion, including a mob hit on her boyfriend, being murdered after a failed blackmail attempt (she had told friends she was expecting to come into money), and even linkage to the infamous Black Dahlia murder. Or of course she could have simply walked out of her old life (many thousands do this every year in the US alone).

Jamie Lynn France is a 23 year old who at one point had a bright future in front of her. She was pretty, with friends and family. Back in 2009 she was on the beauty pageant scene and living in Redmond, Oregon, and had just won her first competition ... 'Miss Teen Oregon-World', and so was on her way to being an all American princess. But somewhere between then and now it all went very wrong.

If she knew what the term 'Annus Horribilis', meant, I think she would agree that 2014 fits the bill for her ... it started when she was reportedly involved in a serious car accident which she believes could have ended in her death. She also stated that she had lost her job, and that a close family member had died .... still she was hopeful of things bucking up 'Let's skip to 2015, I have a feeling it will be a better year by far smile '

Well they do say that you make your own luck, which conversely means that you can also bring on your own downfall. In November 2014 the Keizer police went to bust a local drug dealer called Jarrod Wells and raided his home in Keizer Oregon. They found his wife, children and drugs etc (heroin, methamphetamine, psilocybin (hallucinogenic) mushrooms, drug records and other evidence of the sales and possession of controlled substances), but not him. They tracked him down to the Rodeway Inn hotel in Salem, Oregon, where they found more heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine and records of his drug sales .... they also found Ms France. She had apparently recently moved to the area from Redmond, Oregon.

She was arrested, taken to jail and was charged with possession of methamphetamine, heroin and suboxene, each costing her $10,000 in bail conditions. She managed to raise the total $30,000 bail and bonded herself out of the jail the next day.

The local police force took advantage of the resultant extra publicity that her arrest brought (reports carried on news stations across the US and as far away as Asia), to caution in a release that 'The Keizer Police Department would like to take this opportunity to caution against the use of illegal controlled substances because of the terrible long-term affects to the user, their families and our communities'. ... actually all they had to do was issue a 'before' and 'after' photograph of Ms France. 'Annus Horribilis' indeed.

Ayyan Ali born in Dubai, United Arab Emirates but is of Pakistani descent. She started her career as a model at age of sixteen under the name 'Ayyan' and went on to become a Brand Ambassador of Sunsilk, Ufone, Samsung, Honda and McDonalds in Pakistan.

In 2010, she was awarded the title of Calvin Klein ‘Beauty of the Year 2010’ and in 2013, she became the Brand Ambassador for the Wall’s ice cream Magnum in Pakistan

She has also turned her hand to music, and launched her music video and single called 'You and I' in July 2014 .... however it was a flop and was panned by the critics. This failure may have influenced later events ....

In what may well be considered a publicity stunt .... In 2014, it was announced that she would represent Pakistan in the Miss Universe pageant. Of course that would have made her the first representative from that state and attracted much news coverage in that part of the world, but perhaps it comes as no surprise that she didn't compete.

On the 14th of March 2015, the Pakistan Airport Security Force arrested her at Benazir International Airport and charged her with money laundering. She caught while attempting to board a private airline flight to UAE from Islamabad. Her luggage was checked and security discovered US $506,800 in her cases.

The $500,000 in her suitcase exceeded the legal limit of cash that be carried out of Pakistan, which is $10,000 and so breached the Custom Act. She was seen by a customs judge who remanded her for fourteen days and she was sent to Adiala Jail. She was then shifted to the Civil Hospital Rawalpindi for medical examination before she was told she would be detained until the 16th of March for a bail plea ... due to court inefficiencies she was still in remand custody in April.

One of the lawyers working on Ali’s case, claimed the money came from a legitimate property sale and the model had no intention of taking it out of the country as she was not checked in to her flight when she was stopped and was going to hand the money over to her brother before flying .... however during interrogation she allegedly named several Pakistani politicians and said that 10 to 11 other models are involved in the money laundering. The models are used as handlers/carriers by influential political personalities to smuggle the money out of the country to the Gulf as well as other countries ... that disclosure may prove to be a very clever move or incredibly unwise.

• She won the title of 'Best Female Emerging Model' at The 3rd Pakistan Media Awards 2012.
• She has also been nominated four times for the Lux Style Awards.
• She refused to eat any food served in the jail, so the authorities served her fresh juices for breakfast and biscuits for lunch.
• While in jail she kept on asking the jail officials to give her updates of the Pakistan-Ireland cricket match in the world cup.

Lila Leeds (b. Lila Lee Wilkinson) was born in Iola, Kansas, USA. She had a troubled teenage life and ran away from home. Eventually she drifted to St. Louis, where she became a dancer, and then moved to Los Angeles, where she became a hatcheck girl at 'Ciro's nightclub'.

She took an acting course, and signed almost immediately with MGM and began appearing in small film roles. She has eleven credits to her name, of which none of her roles were better than named parts.

She never really made the breakthrough she wanted, and her parts slipped back into 'un-credited' roles, and she moved out of California in 1949. She ended up roving around the Midwest, where she worked in nightclubs. She eventually returned to Los Angeles in 1966 where she began studying religion and volunteered at local missions and died on September 15, 1999. In all she was married and divorced three times with two children from those marriages.

Her first marriage to actor, composer, singer and conductor Jack Little, whom she met while working at Ciro's was annulled when she discovered that Little was still married .... we haven't had a bigamy for quite a while

On August 31st, 1948, Leeds gained world wide notoriety for being arrested, together with actor Robert Mitchum, on charges of marijuana possession. They were found guilty in January 1949 ... She subsequently spent sixty days in jail (as did Mitchum, who allegedly enjoyed it!). Later it emerged that she had first tried marijuana with members of Stan Kenton's big band orchestra, and that she was introduced to heroin while in jail. These latter allegations were from Cheryl Crane, the daughter of Lana Turner.

Her fiancé, Cranes father, ran away to Europe rather than become entangled in the scandal ,and left her to serve the 60 days in prison alone. Her career never really recovered from this (unlike Mitchum's), and although there was a last gasp publicity campaign and a exploitation movie called 'She Shoulda Said No!' in 1949 (which was part of the genre of 'Reefer Madness-style' films, popular at the time), she was finished with Hollywood by 1950.

Trivia:

• She was classed as a 'Lana Turner' look-alike when she was signed up aged 20. She was later even engaged to Turner's ex-husband Stephen Crane at the time of her arrest.
• She may have actually been born in Dodge City, accounts vary.

Kristina Karo is a self described superstar 'singer' born in Berzhnitza in the Ukraine ... yeah I have never heard of her either. Apparently a couple of promotional videos for her 'hits' 'Give Me A Green Card' and 'I Love America' is enough to be classed a 'Superstar', at least in Ukrainian terms. She moved to Los Angeles to promote her music career .... which an unkind person might describe as 'struggling' ....

So scratching around for a way to get some publicity, she has claimed that she is, or rather was, a childhood friend of actress Mila Kunis, and has apparently threatened to launch a legal claim for damages of $5,000 from Ms Kunis, who she claims stole her pet chicken. The legal action for 'emotional distress' and 'therapy bills', plus 'the cost of a chicken', is based upon the claim that, 25 years ago Kunis had been jealous of her having a pet chicken named 'Doggie' and stole it from her grandmothers farm. The story was embellished with such details as Ms Kunis allegedly later admitting her guilt by saying that 'Kristina, you can have any other chicken as a pet, you have a whole chicken farm.' She has stated that when she arrived in the USA, it revived all her emotional distress from her childhood.

There are a few points of doubt on the veracity of this claim (only a few? I hear you cry) ... the principal one being that Ms Kunis moved to the USA in 1991, aged seven, which means that Ms Karo, who officially claims to be aged 19 ahem ... wasn't actually born when Kunis left for the USA, or of course, heaven forbid the idea, but Ms Karo may be lying when she claims to be just 19 years of age ..... and in fact under questioning after the intention to launch a claim brought much publicity (which of course was the intention), her publicist confirmed that she is 'older'.

After initially ignoring the claim, feathers started to get ruffled and Ms Kunis has cried fowl and joked online that she may countersue, because after watching one of Ms Karo's video's ... “I was devastated. I was weeping. I was dumbfounded,” the Jupiter Ascending actress said. “I was like, 'Which chicken did I steal?' I apologize to this woman, who was maybe or not a month old. I would like to launch a counter $5,000 lawsuit for making me sit there and watch your music video shamelessly. My body hurts. My eyes hurt, they’re burning. That requires money.”

I doubt that this story will get much further than this, and Ms Karo will probably not pullet off ... winging her way back into her coop and obscurity, as quickly as she flew out of it.

Ireland Eliesse Baldwin is an American fashion model who was born in Los Angeles, California, USA. She is the only child of actress Kim Basinger and first child and daughter of actor Alec Baldwin. In April 2013, Baldwin made her modelling debut in a swimwear editorial for the New York Post. She has gone on to appear in 'W Magazine* '​, 'Vanity Fair', 'Elle', and 'DuJour' magazine. She also started a film career in 2013 in the film 'Grudge Match' and 'Dream Corp LLC' in 2014 (a TV Movie)

At age 11, in 2007, she gained recognition in the news after her father Alec Baldwin left her an angry voicemail message which became publicized. In it called stated that "You don't have the brains or the decency as a human being... I don't give a damn that you're 12-years-old or 11-years-old or that you're a child or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass." .... this was during a long-running legal tussle over custody over her. Baldwin later apologised on national TV for calling her a "a thoughtless little pig".

She became romantically involved with the Afro-American female rapper 'Angel Haze', but 'they' are no longer an item. The model and the rapper, split shortly before Baldwin checked into a Malibu rehab for 'intensive therapy' for "emotional trauma," according to 'Us Weekly'. But this split up wasn't necessarily the reason she entered rehab .... again according to the magazine "This was not the reason Ireland entered a multi-treatment facility. She entered due to a variety of pressures in her life. Ireland is being pro-active, doing really well, and being positive about life." .... She apparently has issues so we may see more of her here later.

Brittany May "Britt" McHenry was born in Mount Holly Township, New Jersey, USA and graduated from Stetson University as magna cum laude in 2007 but went on to Northwestern University's, Medill School of Journalism where she started covering local news stories.

She began her professional career working for WJLA-TV, and its sister station NewsChannel 8 as a sports reporter and fill-in anchor, then ABC 7 who she left to join ESPN as a Washington, D.C.-based bureau sports reporter. She acted as correspondent for various US sports shows including SportsCenter, Outside the Lines, NFL Live and Baseball Tonight

On April 16, 2015, a sequence of video segments of Ms McHenry verbally abusing an employee of Advanced Towing, was posted on the LiveLeak UK-based video sharing website. The videos show that the blonde bimbo has a rather inflated opinion of her fame and position, as she first announces that she is a TV reporter ...

"I'm in the news, sweetheart."

The employee tells McHenry she's being recorded, but she is now in full arrogance mode, and then pompously proceeds to makes numerous disparaging remarks about what she thinks is the employee's level of education and low status job ....

"That's why I have a degree and you don't. I wouldn't work at a scumbag place like this. Makes my skin crawl even being here."

and the adds a comment disparaging the employee's appearance ...

"Maybe if I was missing some teeth they would hire me, huh?"

At this point the abused tow firm employee snaps back apparently saying something about McHenry's hair and the colour of her roots .... suggesting she's actually a bottle blonde. However there's no stopping Ms McHenry who snaps back ....

"Oh, like yours, 'cause they look so stunning, 'cause I'm on television and you're in a fucking trailer, honey. Lose some weight, baby girl."

.... before finally threatening to sue the tow firm.

"I will fucking sue this place."

As is normally the case these days the videos went viral and in response to the publicity surrounding the incident, ESPN suspended McHenry from the network for one week.

Rather generously, the tow firm and presumably the abused employee released a statement saying they did not want to see Britt McHenry suspended or terminated as a result of her comments.

'Parking enforcement is contentious by nature. At the same time, neither Gina, our lot clerk, nor our company, have any interest in seeing Britt McHenry suspended or terminated as a result of her comments. Ms. McHenry is our neighbor, and, as she said, to paraphrase, made remarks that were out of line. She is human and errors in judgement can be made in the heat of the moment.'

'Gina is a single mother of 3 children who works a difficult job to provide her family. Gina holds no ill will toward Ms. McHenry. As a small business, we saw no benefit to releasing the video, except to highlight personal attacks employees in jobs like towing, public parking enforcement and others sometimes encounter. The video was not licensed or sold to anyone.'

Linda Nolan was born in Dublin, Ireland but the family moved to Blackpool in 1962 and Linda was part of the family variety troupe "The Singing Nolans". From 1974 to 1983, Ms Nolan was a member of the all girl group 'The Nolans', who achieved eight top forty hits on the UK Singles Charts. Perhaps the best known of these was "I'm in the Mood for Dancing" released in 1979. They were also 'big' in Japan .... with many number 1 hits.

She left the Nolans in 1983 and was considered the "Naughty Nolan" due to her posing in risqué publicity (well for the day) photos. The Nolan's reunited for various tours and shows including the 2009 successful tour of the UK and Ireland. Outside of the Nolans, Ms Nolan played the role of 'Maggie May' at Blackpool's Central Pier for 8 years up until 1994. She also toured with 'Prisoner: Cell Block H – The Musical', in the 1990's. In 2000, she starred in the West End as 'Mrs. Johnstone' in 'Blood Brothers' and went on to perform for several years in the UK touring production .... she has been on various TV shows, with 'Celebrity Big Brother 13' in January 2014.

In 1995, Nolan's husband was caught stealing money from comic Frank Carson's dressing room in a Blackpool nightclub. This provoked fellow comic Jim Davidson, who was playing up the road at the time and threatened to punch Nolans husband, and Davidson was evicted thrown out of the nightclub'

She had married the Nolan's tour manager in 1981, who became her manager after she left the Nolans until his death in 2007. She suffered health issues with cancer in 2006. She has stated that she was one of Rolf Harris's sexual assault victims, although she was not involved in the trial'

By the time of the 'Celebrity Big Brother 13' show (which included Jim Davidson), she had fallen on hard times according to the Belfast Telegraph, which stated that she had entered in an attempt to turn her fortune around, as she had encountered some hard times and had turned to the UK benefits system.

And therein lay her future problems. On 10 May, 2015 it was reported that Ms Nolan will appear in court being charged with welfare benefit frauds totalling £12,000. It was stated that Ms Nolan had failed to declare additional income from television appearances whilst she was in receipt of welfare benefits. This story has attracted much publicity and Ms Nolan has got her defence in first so to speak by declaring that she had made a “stupid mistake”.

She states that she had notified the Department for Work and Pensions whenever she got jobs – including her reunion tour with 'The Nolans' in 2009 and a stint on Celebrity Big Brother in January 2014. However the charges relate to claims for benefits she made between April 2012 and December 2013, when she worked on TV appearances and had a problem page in a local magazine. She omitted to declare this work because she did not see them as a “change of circumstances”.

On the basis that national coverage is good publicity and the Nolans were popular, I expect that she will get some day time TV out of this .... she most likely faces a fine if found guilty.

'Madge Meredith', was born Marjorie May Massow in Iowa Falls, Iowa, US. She had moved to California after leaving school, no doubt dreaming of stardom, but had ended up behind the cash register in the 20th Century-Fox commissary by the mid-1940's.

But in a Cinderella moment, she was 'talent spotted' by 20th Century-Fox, and when that contract ended, she was then picked up by the RKO studio. Her first role was in the 1944 film 'Take It or Leave It', and was under the name Marjorie Massow as was her second credited role in the same year .... but thereafter, her credits went under the name 'Madge Meredith' in a career with 27 credits. Most of her later work was in TV shows, including 'The Adventures of Kit Carson', 'The Lone Ranger','The Adventures of Jim Bowie', and ending in 1964 with an appearance in 'The Littlest Hobo'.

In 1946, with her first earnings, and the promise of more to come, she had purchased a home in the Hollywood Hills with the help of her 'business manager, and restaurant supply man', and her then 'friend' Nick Gianaclis, who was a Greek immigrant. So all seemed to be on the up after she was cast opposite Tom Conway in the film series 'The Falcon’s Adventure'.

She married Dr Charles S Corley in 1953, but sued him for divorce in 1956.

In 1947 Gianaclis and his bodyguard Verne V. Davis, testified to the police that they were both beaten, kidnapped and taken out to Lopez Canyon, and then robbed, by a group of men as they had neared Meredith's home in the Hollywood Hills. According to Mr Gianaclis, he and Davis had caught the man who was watching over them in Lopez Canyon off guard, and relieved him of his weapon. They had then run to a local ranch house and called the cops.

In their statement to the L.A. County Sheriffs Department, they claimed that at about 9 am on that Monday morning, they were on the way to work, but when they reached the bottom of the hill at Laurel Canyon Road, they met Marjorie Massow driving a new maroon convertible. She motioned to them to turn around and follow her up the hill to the house, which they did. The house was at the centre of an ownership dispute between Mr Gianaclis and Ms Meredith.

However about 200 yards from the house, Mr Gianaclis told officers, that the actress turned her car to block the road and when they also stopped, a third car drove up behind and Ms Meredith directed it occupants at them ... “There they are! Go get them!”. One of the three armed men in the blocking car administered a beating to both Gianaclis and Davis with a blackjack, while the others covered them with guns.

A warrant was issued for Ms Meredith’s arrest. However when she was questioned she said that Mr Gianaclis had threatened her many times about the ownership of the house, which he claimed was part his, and that he had arranged a meeting in the Hollywood Hills on the day of the kidnapping to discuss the property rights.

She said she had bought the house, but being $5,000 short of the asking price, she had borrowed it from her business manager to complete the transaction ... taking out two life insurance policies to protect his investment ... but she claimed he tricked her into signing over the deeds to the house (not the loan documents), and this had made him legally part owner of the property.

On the fateful day, she had become scared when she noticed that she was being followed by a car driven by Mr Gianaclis. When she reached the meeting place in Laurel Canyon, Ms Meredith said that Mr Gianaclis forced her automobile to the kerb. She attempted to escape but he and Davis had threatened her with a length of pipe .... her story is strange in that she said she was frightened even though they were both driving to an agreed meeting spot. It also doesn't explain why Mr Gianaclis would then force her automobile to the kerb, if they were both stopping there anyway?

The police believed Mr Gianaclis and his version, and charged her with kidnapping and complicity in an assault and after a 4 week trial, on December 12, 1947, a jury found her guilty of five felony charges involving the kidnapping (her 'accomplices' were also convicted). She said she had been "framed", and she was remanded to County Jail pending a new hearing, but the motion for a new trial was denied. By May 1949, her appeal attempts had been exhausted, and was placed in 'Tehachapi Prison' to begin serving the remainder of her sentence of from five years to life.

But there was twist in the tale.... firstly, Mr Albert Tucker, one of Ms Meredith’s co-defendants, made a new statement in which he said that Nick Gianaclis had planned all along to implicate Miss Meredith in a fake kidnapping, in order to force her to return to his “domination.” Tucker said that the married Gianaclis had a “personal affection” for Madge, aside from regarding her prospective “lavish income” from movie contracts. Immediately an application for a pardon or retrial was filed on Meredith’s behalf.

In the same month the parole board of the California Adult Authority recommended her for immediate release from prison, as the board had examined her case, and concluded that she had been the victim of a miscarriage of justice. The matter was examined by the California Assembly Interim Committee on Crime and Corrections, which issued an official report concluding that Meredith had been framed with the case being badly handled in court and that the inconsistent allegations by the perpetrators were overlooked by police.

In July 1951, Gov. Earl Warren commuted her sentence to time served and issued a statement of disgust at how her trial had been handled. She had spent two years, two months and five days in prison, and she had been held in County Jail for 11 months prior to going to going to Tehachapi Prison.

Postscript: Following her release from Tehachapi prison, the courts ordered that Miss Meredith receive back ownership of her home from Mr. Gianaclis, who was afterwards denied U.S. citizenship by the U.S. Immigration Service.

However, it should be noted that far from her complete innocence being established, one of the three man parole board later said that "It was our conclusion that the girl (Meredith) knew something was going to happen to Gianaclis and Davis – perhaps that they were to be intimidated, but that she contemplated no physical assault on the men.” .... so perhaps not quite the ringing endorsement of 'her innocence' that the state legislature and governor later accorded her.

Her suing for divorce in 1956 was on the grounds of 'cruelty' by her doctor husband.

Simone Silva was born in Cairo Egypt to French-Italian parents. She wanted a film career in the US so moved to England as a stepping stone after marrying an Englishman (whom she later divorced). However she never really got the recognition she craved and from the early 1950's she made a living by posing as a photographic pin-up model for the British cheesecake magazines of the era. She even posed for Pl*yboy magazine, simulating the famous Salome's dance of the seven veils in the July 1954 edition.

That's not to say she had no film success after she landed her first role in 1951 with a small un-credited non-speaking part in 'Lady Godiva Rides Again'. She clocked up 15 credits but never broke out, with the highlight being her only top-billing as a femme-fatale opposite Lloyd Bridges in the Hammer Films 'Third Party Risk' in 1954.

She was found dead in her London apartment on 30 November 1957, aged 29. The autopsy gave the cause of death as a stroke.... possibly brought on by crash dieting to keep her weight down (something she had struggled with since her teens).

In a move that many a starlet has taken, in March 1954 she travelled to Cannes for the seventh Film Festival in an attempt to get herself noticed. Initially all went plan and the festival organisers even awarded her the honorary title of "Miss Festival 1954".

Asked to pose for press photographs with Hollywood actor Robert Mitchum on the French Riviera near Cannes. She stunned the photographers by removing her top and posing cupping her bare breasts in her hands (a move copied by many later wanabee's), while the ever willing Mr Mitchum played along. The stunt succeeded beyond her wildest hopes with the photographs published around the world.

However not withstanding her honorary title, the festival committee were horrified at what they considered a vulgar and tacky publicity stunt and she was asked to leave the festival .... but job done. She was well known.

Fresh from her 'publicity triumph' she went to the US on a tourist visa .... looking for work. Her notoriety was fresh, and she was quickly offered a contract by an independent filmmaker, Al Petker, and started picking up a salary. However she had no US work permit and in June 1954, the District Immigration Director in Los Angeles refused her retroactive application for a work permit, ordering her to leave the U.S. within 60 days. She got a temporary stay while she appealed but taken ill with vomiting caused by stress, she fell out with Mr Petker for allegedly failing to pay her $235pw salary, while he countered that he had suspended her for gaining a significant amount of weight, after investing $54,000 on promoting her career.

She tried her hand as a night club entertainer in the US but this ended in tears as well, as she sued the owners of the 'New Melody Club' in Palm Beach for $5,000 breach of contract damages. She said that despite a $750 per week seven weeks agreement they had refused to letter complete the contract after just one week and had paid her only $450 for that week.

By the 5th of May 1955 the New York Times were reporting that having exhausted all her appeals she had been ordered out of the U. S.
