After watching LeBron's new Nike commercial, then having to suffer through Jerry's opening piece (of swill), my stomach is turning over. Geez, just shut up and play why don't ya ???

There's a fine line between confidence and braggadocio. Stating that you'll go to the Super Bowl when you were one game short last year (Jets) is confidence. Stating that you'll go to the Super Bowl when you won your first playoff game in ten years, then were eliminated is nothing but bullshit. You opened your billion dollar palace last year and the Giants clowned you in your own house. You needed a victory tonight AGAIN in your own stadium, jumped out to a lead and then folded up like a $2 map. And did I see a Cowboys player celebrating a tackle when the game was virtually out of reach ? ARE YOU KIDDING ME ?

I said last year: the Cowboys will go nowhere with Wade Phillips as coach. But if Bill Cowher goes to Dallas I'll be royally pissed !

The Cowboys showed how PATHETIC they are, because they obviously have the talent to win, but they CANNOT PUT TOGETHER A COMPLETE GAME. Jerry can lay this loss on the injury to Tony Romo, but Romo doesn't play on the O-line or play defense.

A few posts back I mentioned Allen Iverson going to play ball in Turkey. While I'm on a rant here, I'd like to address the injustice done to A.I. Years ago, was he questioning the need for him to attend practice, or was he questioning why the subject of practice was being discussed at a press conference ? I'm not sure. But he was pilloried by the media for putting himself above "practice". But when Brett Favre didn't show up to training camp in '09 some went as far to state that "Well, Brett is a veteran, he doesn't need to attend training camp". Now that the Vikes are off to a terrible start, his failure to show up to training camp this season is NOW an issue. In the NBA, the point guard must direct four other players. In the NFL, the QB has to command ten.

Do you remember when Ted Turner owned the Atlanta Braves and showed up at the ballpark to assume the role of manager, until the umpires and the league told him as owner he could not also manage the team ? Speaking of rants (here he goes again), I proclaimed that Kevin Durant was the new "King" after he lead Team USA to the World Championship. You know, the one that LeBron was too busy to attend. My sister who thinks LBJ is the second coming (of what, I'm not really sure even she knows.......) pointed out that a lot of the marquee players also didn't play for Team USA. But as I told her, a King LEADS his people. Thus, we have King Kevin. During the preseason Durant was quoted as saying he didn't attend a party LeBron was throwing in Miami because it was the night before the game, and he never goes out the night before a game. That's the sign of a true leader. Meanwhile, Princess James continues with his "Oh poor me..... why is everybody always pickin' on me ?" act. Thank the good Lord that tonight is the night the start of the NBA season. Anyone care to wager that the Celtics will beat the Heat, a team without a good point guard and without their starting forward ?

Don't get me wrong, I don't bear LBJ any ill will. Every man makes mistakes, every man needs a little help now and then. There's nothing wrong with a man being proud, even if I do tell people "I have no pride - I'm married !". But I have little patience for punks, thugs, loud mouths, braggarts, blow hards, and cry babies.............

From the stat sheet - the Bills are giving up 33 pts/game, 3 more than 2nd worst Jacksonville and only 5 off the pace set by the all time worst 1981 Colts defence.

379 yards/game, that's only 5th worst.

174 rushing yds/game, that's 17 more than 2nd worst Tampa Bay.

205 passing yards/game, that's 5th best in the league but like last year why pass when it's easier to run on them and control the clock.

1 interception, dead last.

3 forced fumbles, tied for last.

8 sacks, only 4th worst and surprising given the lack of pressure on the QB their pass rush generates.

Look at their drafts for the past ten years and there is next to nothing from them left on the roster, especially the 6 to 10 year vets that should be the heart and leadership of the team; and very few of those draft picks are on any team in the league now. That's a sin that will take a long time to overcome.

While training camp is important, my experience with it has been that it is mainly to get guys into shape...more of a physical thing than a cerebral thing. In the NFL, it is also a chance for the coaches to get a look at 30+ guys for the open roster spots and to let them fight it out for those spots.

Let's look at the Favre thing in particular;

1) By all accounts, he didn't want to come back this year
2) In '09, the team did pretty good with him missing camp
3) He does have a ring
4) He's not just 'a veteran', he holds many of the leagues records
5) In football years, he's ancient. Maybe him missing camp is, physically - a good thing. Less wear and tear.
6) Could this years failings be about the lack of pieces around him? They had to go out and get Camarillo and Moss to replace guys....

But this is kinda like comparing apples and oranges, because the NFL does practice and from what we hear...Favre does practice.

AI missed practices, and when he was called out for it by Larry Brown in '02 said:

"We're sitting here, I'm supposed to be the franchise player, and we're in here talking about practice,"

No sense of entitlement there, eh?

Here's more on his time with the Sixers:

During the latter part of the 2003–2004 season, Iverson bristled under the disciplinarian approach of the Sixers' new head coach Chris Ford. This led to a number of contentious incidents, including Iverson being suspended for missing practice, fined for failing to notify Ford that Iverson would not attend a game because he was sick, and refusing to play in game because he felt "insulted" that Ford wanted Iverson to come off the bench as he worked his way back from an injury.[22]

The 2005–06 NBA season would be the last full season for Iverson in a Sixers uniform. He averaged a career high 33.0 points per game, but the Sixers missed the playoffs for the second time in three years. He had also begun to clash with coach Jim O'Brien, who was fired after the season.

On April 18, 2006, Iverson and Chris Webber arrived late to the Sixers' fan appreciation night and home game finale. Players are expected to report 90 minutes before game time, but both Iverson and Webber arrived around tipoff. Coach Maurice Cheeks notified the media that neither would be playing and general manager Billy King announced that Iverson and Webber would be fined.[23] During the 2006 off-season, trade rumors had Iverson going to Denver, Atlanta, or Boston. None of the deals were completed. Iverson had made it clear that he would like to stay a Sixer.[24]

On November 29, 2006, following a conflict at practice, Iverson stormed out of the gymnasium. That same evening, Iverson missed a corporate sponsor night at Lucky Strike Lanes in Philadelphia. All the 76ers besides Iverson attended this mandatory event. Iverson was fined an undisclosed amount by the 76ers. Iverson claimed he overslept after taking medication for pain related to having two abscessed teeth pulled but it was reported that Iverson told teammates earlier in the day he planned to blow off the event and was simply going to take the fine.[25]

On December 8, 2006, Iverson reportedly demanded a trade from the Sixers (although he would deny that).[26] As a result of the demand and missing practice prior to a matchup against the Washington Wizards, Iverson was told not to play nor attend any further games. During that game, which was televised nationally on ESPN, Sixers Chairman Ed Snider confirmed the trade rumors by stating "We're going to trade him. At a certain point, you have to come to grips with the fact that it's not working. He wants out and we're ready to accommodate him."[27]

What do you notice about that span of years (2002 - 2006)?

Like I said before, he has a lot of heart, but he's hardly what you want your first round draft pick to emulate...

The real raw deal Iverson got, was as a kid, in the fight in the bowling alley in Virginia...15 year sentence, 10 years suspended....very fishy.
